Questions about 15" wheels.
Questions about 15" wheels.
Did a quick search but couldn't find anything on this subject so thought I'd ask.
If my research is correct, a 15" wheel will fit fine as long as it has an offset of ET-0, is that right?
What is the best size of tyres to get, I'm looking at some 195 50's, but was wondering if there was anything better?
Also curious how this will affect the Speedo, I'm assuming it won't read accurately but by how much? Will it read slower, faster?
Thanks everyone!

Re: Questions about 15" wheels.
If you look at pictures of Fordaholic Nick's pictures of his beautiful Laser it will give you an idea of how they look - stunning!
The tyre size conversion chart link below will allow you to see which 15" wheels give you a similar rolling radius to your existing tyres so that the speedo isn't too far out.
I can't help you with the offsets but I'm sure someone else will.

Hi,
here is something about 15" wheels:
viewtopic.php?t=51175
Standard tyres on Capri 280 are 195/50 VR 15 and ET+5.

Re: Questions about 15" wheels.
I really like the 15x7 RS4 Nick style alloys, but very common on many Capris now ( Nick)
Saying that, not much else I would want to put on my car. Minilites are nice but I'm not 100% which you need to be when buying wheels. Had the 280 style which do look good on the Capri.
So many wheels don't suit the Capri so an expensive mistake
15 inch pepperpots will do (I know Danny would approve)

How cool is that. Nice one Dianne
Hamish I think these wheels really suit the Capri. Seen a few guys on fb fitted very similar and really transformed the look. Mate on fb recently fitted 15x7 like these and wow the difference it made !!

Re: Questions about 15" wheels.
Yep I can see them working proper nicely on that Healey Hamish although you might cause a stir at the monthly club meet ups But I love different. Its very healthy not to conform to everything. I used to get in constant trouble at school for not wearing proper uniform. I was a rebel
Dont forgot to post up pictures when you get a Healey 3000 anf fit these Hamish

Re: Questions about 15" wheels.
I'll have to wait till my parents kark it before I get a Austin Healy. I nearly bought a red one (#uck it was red , red paint, red upholstery with .....red piping , red carpet and red #uckin roof ) with my accident insurance money , but "others" thought it best to pay off the mortgage. Fully restored but I just couldnt go with the red......and there aint that many in NZ .
I am pleased I paid the mortgage off, havnt got enough feet to drive it now anyhow

COMMON.!!! RS 4 Spokes ...andyd wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 6:24 pm I really like the 15x7 RS4 Nick style alloys, but very common on many Capris now ( Nick)

Yes Andy I agree mate choosing the right wheels for the look you want is pretty difficult with the big choices as you said. For me it's easy as I've always loved the rs 4 spokes and indeed am on my third set. Have had std 6x13, polished 7x13 and now polished 7x15. And I really like Danny's 7.5x13 which look dam good too.!!! It's a testament to the design that even now as you rightly said many are still choosing the 4 spokes in a world with much more choice of wheels than ever before not only on Capris but escorts and fiestas too. . Having said this I really really do like minilites on Capris. They really suit it if the cars sitting a tad lower than std. . If I were to ever stray from 4 spokes I woukd seriously consider these. The wheels Hamish has are stunning too.!! Seven spokes and peppers also look really great too. Its just all about personal taste for the look you want but as you say unless you have a firm fav it can be quite a challenge to choose from the many. . Everyone has there favourite wheel. . I really love the different looks the different wheels give to the Capri. Kris has some stunning wheels but for the life of me I can't remember what they are again

Re: Questions about 15" wheels.
I do like the RS4s but am falling out of lover with them a little... Not only are they a pain to keep clean, the lacquer has peeled on both sets I've owned which is probably partly my fault for not cleaning them every 30seconds but when I drive the car pretty much everyday it makes no sense to.andyd wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 6:24 pm I really like the 15x7 RS4 Nick style alloys, but very common on many Capris now ( Nick)

I'm hankering after some Wellers or starmags now
Unfortunately Andy there is no 'sick' emoji but I can't imagine anything worse than bigger pepperpots

I imagine to repair any kerb damage etc would also be a painD366Y wrote: ↑Tue Jul 28, 2020 9:08 amI do like the RS4s but am falling out of lover with them a little... Re: Questions about 15" wheels.
Yep - scratched my first set a bit and because they are already diamond cut there is only a tiny amount left on them so if you scuff them too badly or more than once then there isn't really much you can do to repair it which is annoying.
That's why I'm leaning towards going back to painted wheels rather than alloys!

Re: Questions about 15" wheels.
They are a pain to keep clean Danny. Even harder to dry off afterwards and treat so I find it easier to take the wheels off now.. Neighbours think I've lost the bleedin plot
Danny I love your 7.5's fella. But yep sometimes it's nice to change things up to give your capti a new stance. Looking forward to seeing what you do mate

What do you guys recommend to use on the new alloys to protect the shiny bits?

This is very good stuff. Apply 2/3 coats for extra protection. It's a great barrier against brake dust.
