Hi Chris,

As you can imagine it's difficult to measure them accurately with the engine in-situ.
I've just tried on a 2.3 Cologne motor and it's almost impossible unless certain parts are removed.

I have however, been on an Internet website of a Ford specialist in Germany and it seems there are two sizes for the cylinder head.
One is listed as, 38.2mm and the other is 39.9mm - for all Cologne motors from, 2.0 to 2.8i.
Could it be that the rear core plug is smaller than the front one?

Hope this helps.
All the best.

Curiously though, they also list a full set of core plugs that consists of 11x 38.2mm (plus the 51mm plug), there is no mention of the set having any 39.9mm plugs.

The exploded diagram of a 2.9 cylinder head on Fordopedia also lists the core plugs as being 2 different sizes. :headscratch:

Hi Andrew.

If you go on this website https://www.motomobil.com/online-katalog,4135.html and then click through to page 104 you should see a diagram of a cylinder head where item 18 indicates the front core plug.
When you click on this you are transferred to an item list of which the first three are sets for the motor block.
The last two on the list are for the cylinder head (Zylinderkopf) and they show two different sizes for all heads for Capris from 04/69 – 02/87 and for all V6 engines from 2.0 to 2.8.
I presume the forward core plug has the large diameter.
I tried to measure both on our V6 but it’s difficult. Nevertheless, I had the impression that the forward one is larger.
That's why I went on this website.

Regards
Steve

If its a 2.9 it could be worth asking on a Scorpio forum
