That is a late model S, my 1984 S has the same seats in whats called strobe cloth. Strobe was either red or grey. Automatic was available as an optional extra.

The interior is correct for an 'S', it's certainly not a laser interior.
The radio might have been changed but it's a better one than a UK 'S' would have had.
The red stripe is not something I have seen before. Might be after market but maybe there were different options in NZ.
Not sure on the auto but usually it was possible to order them as an option on most models.

Yep, my 1983 S had that interior. Looks like a 2.8i radio? Maybe was an upgrade option?

I'd be more concerned about the missing parcel shelf. With the rest of the car looking so good, you'd need to pay nearly the same amount again to get one to suit it.

Currently full up and no more space but I still want a 2.8...

I have the same radio in my laser - not sure if they just started fitting them to all cars as the years went by? Or possibly upgrade option like Bug said but does look nice otherwise

It does look an entirely genuine late spec 2.0 S to me.

Automatics would have been rare on the earlier S, as most 2 litre automatics then would have been ordered as a GL or a Ghia.

There were many more automatics in these later spec S cars as by then the model range for 4 cylinder Capris had been reduced to just the LS (1.6) or S (2.0). Anyone wanting a 2 litre automatic Capri at that time would have had to order it as an S.

Ask about the parcel shelf. If they have it somewhere but deemed it too tatty to be left in for the photos it's ok as you can fit it's pivot bar, carpet sections etc onto a new replica CCI shelf. If it's missing altogether though you may need to do some searching around for those parts.

Also get the vendor to take some photos of the top of the dashboard as these suffer from cracking. There are solutions but it could give you a good opportunity to argue for a bit of a discount if so.

Just looking at the VIN tag in the photos, the one on my 81 Ghia has information stamped / embossed on every line. The one in the ad looks suitably aged but only has info embossed on the engine text line.

Maybe folks with more experience of this model / vintage could comment ?

That's a cute car no doubt. I had a champagne gold 1.6LS until some geezer T-Boned the nearside when I was off out dancing :-(
Factory auto which you might expect down under with a 2.8 battery tray to suit that system. Radio is one of the original models available. Dashboard is cracked but who gives a monkeys, it's character - some things change a little bit as the years go by, on various models...
Rear corner bumpers are missing the screw covers but available from someone. Spiel says 128k kilometres ?? is NZ on kilometres & was that standard? For the condition even with respray it could pass as 28 thou miles. £15,500 in English money and for the condition is worth that to the right buyer.
Austin Cambridge in the background??

It's a late model, I built one in the same colour for Darren Revill a few years ago, same interior but manual transmission.
