spot of rain

been pissing down .... don't think I will go this way again ( only road out of my neck of the woods ) but we got beer and food in , its about a foot deeper in the middle and we were starting to slip sideways.
I drove to Dunedin and back yesterday and on the way there I was having to detour regularly . On the way home I had to take to some back roads as all the main roads were closing ( not that there was any less water they are just slower to get the b class roads closed ) one part near Matarua I had water over the tops of the wheels , wet carpet and an earful from the southroads guy . lucky to make it home

Now that's a flooded road!
I'm guessing that a detour from your planned route will take you miles out of your way.

Andrew.

Nah , thats it Andrew ,Im staying home till that subsides a bit. Thats the alt route ,the main road was closed about 1/2 hr after we got thru yesterday . I havnt been for a look yet this am ......still reloading on coffee ( Mmmmm maccona ) and watchin gunsmoke . That hump in the road on tother side of the water is the lead up to the bridge ( that you cant quite see) and on the other side is a domain where all the freedom campers free load and shit in the bushes
............ha ha ha fuck them all, they will be up to their arses in water. Once the camp area gets wet the access road is already under and if they dont have their witts about them they are staying put.....and the water is at least a metre higher than I have ever seen it heh heh heh :xd:

I watch Hub Nut too and have been following his trip round NZ. Reminds me of when I was there doing a similar trip back in 2000.

I see on the BBC website that the road into Milford Sound has been destroyed, what a shame. I remember driving down that road in a hire car with two Swedish birds who tagged along for the ride.

Shame about the road though, looks like it will take ages to rebuild which won't be good for all the boat owners in the Sound.

Ya well , couldnt help myself ,had to go check the river out , crutched my way to car in undies ,wasnt planning on getting out , so also left crutches in car shed ,drove to river ( this time in toyota estate ) found a bit of water half way across padock track to be a hero in , ploughed my way thru ,water over bonnet , car stops so I give it 10 mins to dry out .....but no #uckin thing has sucked up half the river and hydroliced , remember no pants , no crutches so I aint goin nunwheres . Then the horn starts howling by itself so I hop round front of car and disconnect battery . Back in car I notice floor mats are floating on drivers side. I figure Im going to be here untill Di gets up and sees me awol so I wait ( cant do much else ) .......from 8.30 am till just after 2pm when friend and his wife turn up ( out of the blue ) and assess my predicament and after they both stop falling about the place laughing their arses off he tows me home where I have to tell wifie that I might just have buggered her car engine. Shit I hope it hasnt bent a rod .

Update , it goes :applaud: still cant shut the horn up and the central locking doesnt work , and Im sure they are connected as the horn beeps if I try to lock the car (with the key fob ) when its already locked , sooo the technical aproach is to remove horn relay and let things dry out a bit :deadhorse:

Yes , the central locking magic box is under the driver seat and it was completely submerged so I removed it ,give it a shot od wd40 ,a blast of compressed air and left it in the sun ( big yellow hot thing in the sky ) for a couple of hours and it works ,bit surprising really as it spent 30 odd hrs submerged and it has chips and surface mount things , maybe the fact that as soon as it got wet I removed the battery lead so there would be no " fizzing ". I had to change the engine oil ( bit milky ) and new air filter element , all that remains is to refit the carpet and sound deadening kapok.
Got off light methinks :D

Last week I went to pick something up from Danny, (not in the Capri!) and there were several flooded sections of road along the way. All passable as the water was only just covering the road surface, but still much worse than I'd seen before.

Went out yesterday during a brief respite in the rain, in the Capri, to fill up with petrol and go around the block... windscreen wipers stopped dead, fuse blown. I think it was trying to tell me it didn't want to go out!

Have you ever heard of getting wiper stem bushes being replaced . I had to do my escort as they were well knackered , rebuilt the stems and fitted brass bushes to the ally mounts ,drilled a 1mm hole down the centre of the stem , and a another in from the side so I can pump a bit of grease in there. I was just thinking with all the weather you guys get probly wear out the wipers quicker than most.
