See if it's got a sort of crows foot/arrow on it.
If it does then it could be from some sort of sighting or navigation instrument.

Well I thought you were allowing for global position coz if you looked at it from up where you are it would be bottom left
I thought maybe surveying ... What I really wanted to hear is that it is bomb sight of a Avro Lancaster or maybe off the Memphis Belle ( doubt it . Looks to be quite prescision as it has means to adjust clearance and back lash.

Steampunk is really on the up and making clock parts go up because they destroy the clock for the cogs . Have not got a clue what that is .

The dial clearly shows, “tenths of a degree correction” and it goes from 0 to 60.
Therefore I would assume the device is used for checking/measuring, degrees, minutes and seconds, which are the units for calculating latitude and longitude.
On the other hand, it could be the adjusting system for a theodolite.

What’s certain is that you can’t use it to set the ignition timing on a Capri.

Your find reminded me of an incident that happened some years ago now.

When I need to do some digging in the garden I often find something unusual. One time I found a small circular dial showing 0-360°. At first I thought it was from the setting levers of a lathe – but with 360 increments?
I also considered the possibility that it was from some sort of field cannon, either American or German.

Lots of people have heard of the Battle of the Bulge but not many of, “Nordwind”. We live in what was one of the launching points for SS troops fighting a pincer movement to entrap American troops, some of them sheltering in foxholes just above our garden.
Consequently I am still finding live bullets, spent cases and other bits and pieces of war.

One fine day, our son, about eight-years-old at the time, had been playing in an abandoned plot next door and proudly came to me and presented – unwittingly – a live mortar bomb!

I understand what you mean – it’s a scary situation.

The real danger is that the child becomes frightened and throws it away.

The ensuing conversation went something like this,
“Oh that’s nice.”

“Give it to paps – very carefully – (double sphincter twitch)
because we don’t want to break it, do we?” (quadruple sphi… you get the picture)
“Now, you go in the house with mummy.”
Once I had it my hands I took it very carefully to the top of the garden and gently laid it in grass among some trees.

Leg it as fast as possible. Call the cops.
Bomb disposal came and took it away.

Oh ,its not the only reason we didnt have kids , and the hammer looks like its got no handle because its got no handle

believe it , its cheaper to buy a new hammer with a hickory handle than it is to buy a hickory hammer handle.
