Ford capri for sale

Ford Capri 2 Litre laser (1986) For Sale
Image
Rosso Red
Mot 24/1/20
This capri is pretty solid underneath, however I recived some advisory's at the last mot saying that she would be needing some welding done in the future (leaf spring hangers) (offside door pillar) and I noticed there is also about a 4 inch hole on the offside inner wing .

NON STRUCTURAL BODYWORK.

Both wings are showing rust bubbles at the front near the headlights also a bit of rust on the drivers side wing near the scuttle . The roof has a few bubbles around the sunroof and a bit round the rear Archies. The paint work is fair on most of the car but the bonnet and roof suffer from the eggshell affect .

Good Bits
Stainless steel exhaust from the downpipe to the rear of the car.

New clutch fitted by local garage in June .

Kent cams FR 32 camshaft and K&N air filter.

New stainless steel brake pistons fitted

New rear bumper fitted

New handbrake cable fitted and rear brake adjusters cleaned and new shoes fitted

Reconditioned steering rack, and new steering coupling fitted

General Lee air horns along with original horn .

Interior is in pretty good condition , slight tear on drivers seat . Dashboard has the usual cracking and the dash has been cut for modern radio (but no radio at the moment) .
All in all she is a great car in need of a bit of TLC she goes well and sounds good and since I fitted electronic ignition she has never missed a beat in 4 years. I am looking for £3.800 which I think is a pretty good price as she could be made to look amazing with a bit of tlc. PS the photo I posted on this page was taken last year so more up to date photos to be added soon . If interested please email me at [email protected]

The trouble with rust is until you start attacking it you don't really know how bad it is.

Maybe one of the seasoned members on here could give their opinion.

One thing is for sure, the rust won't cure itself. I would venture to suggest that any corrosion issues, especially in structural components like spring hangers, need attending to as soon as possible.
You've been honest in your description and highlighted the areas that need fixing, that's good.

Andrew.

I`m thinking 1st pic is OS spring mounting, 2nd is NS? TBH, I`ve seen much much worse and although as Andy says it`s hard to tell until you start digging, you can still see the outlines of the various plates of metal which is a good sign. Could well be saveable. I`d be more worried about the A post, the bubbling below the top hinge could well be surface, but if not & it`s coming through, that will be a really bad omen. You can`t really tell though till you start poking. Any comments at last MOT?

Yes there was an advisory , the guy just said that it would have to be done at some point , but never seemed to concerns. What about that hole in the inner wing is that a big job to ?? I always thought my capri was pretty clean just goes to show how quickly they can go downhill.

Out of interest, how long has your car been on sale and has anybody come to view it yet?

Hi Andrew , it's been 4 days but no one has been to view it yet but getting people offering to buy it from £500 up to £2200 but I just think £3000 is a fair price . But as you know it's only worth what someone is willing to pay , will probably end up just keeping it and doing the work required. Alex

Hope you don't mind but here is a copy of the last MOT.

26 January 2019
Pass
Mileage 53,136 miles
Expiry date 25 January 2020

Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):

Nearside Rear Integral body structure is corroded but structural rigidity is not significantly reduced (6.1.1 (c) (i))
Nearside Front Integral body structure is corroded but structural rigidity is not significantly reduced A pillar (6.1.1 (c) (i))
Nearside Integral body structure is deformed but structural rigidity is not significantly reduced outer sill area (6.1.1 (a) (i))

Always hard to sell a car with little MOT left on it, so maybe get the work done and a new MOT and you may well get more money for it.

Thanks for that , yes I see where you are coming from I will get the work done and keep a hold of her. I was just trying for a quick sale as I was made redundant but will be quite happy to keep hold of her :xd: . Cheers Alex

Car(s): Just sold 1983 2.8 Injection 5 speed. Currently restoring another classic Previously owned 2 Capris. Likely to own another at some point

.. or just get enough work done to get her through another year's MOT and sell her for a bit more if you need the money. Spend a hundred or so to get another thousand back.

Despite the desire to hang onto a car and the sense of failure it can bring having to sell something you really weren't planning on selling the reality is that cashflow to keep the family afloat is more important.
You can then look forward to buying another capri once you are back on your feet. It wont be too far in the future.
