Mk1 Indicator Flasher Unit Location
Mk1 Indicator Flasher Unit Location
Hi All,
Firstly a little bit of background...
I recently made the interesting decision to buy my dream first car, a Ford Capri Mk1. And the insurance wasn't even as crippling as I expected
So far I'm thoroughly enjoying this introduction to classic motoring, although I've hit a snag regarding the indicators.
When they are applied, the indicators stay solid amber and do not flash. After consulting several former Capri owners, I've established that the most likely fault is the flasher unit. However, despite disassembling the dash (and checking the regular locations under the bonnet), I can't find the unit.
Hopefully someone who has changed one of these themselves may be able to help me out identifying the location of the unit?
I have attached several pictures of vacant connectors within the dash - I suspect one of which may be for the flasher.
Thank you very much in advance,
Josh

Cheers Jason, I'll give it a try, although had a rummage behind the lever and couldn't find anything. Will I have to remove the lever assembly to get to it?
Once again, thanks for your help

Re: Mk1 Indicator Flasher Unit Location
MK1 facelift flasher units were usually a black three pin relay. Earlier MK1 flasher units tended to be a metal cylindrical unit. Try looking to the left of the steering column as the flasher unit may be clipped to the side of the pedal box bracket.

Hi all,
On my Mk 1's (facelift) the flasher unit is 2 pin and cylindrical in shape, it's located between the ash tray and the steering column
Hope this helps

If it is 2 pin then it's load sensitive. Are all the bulbs working and of the correct wattage . Should be 22-25 watts for the main indicators and 10-12 watts for the side indicators (wee ones on the front guard if they are fitted ,)

Perhaps it's different in NZ, they are 21W in the UK.

And the repeaters will be either 4w bayonet or 5w wedge base?

Yes, although it's unlikely that a mk1 would have side repeaters.
