And fit the 2.0...the specs given for the 1600 are accurate with those simple mods....ask Dan about the one I built for him....but as far as you can go with it. Lairy cams are risky, not much valve clearance if you mess about with lift and duration. Whereas the 2...well, no stopping really. Only the depth of your pocket restricts the power available.
We managed it OK in the end. I took the head off and then we just dropped it onto the engine stand. Managed to create space to store it, the car will need to move to enable any work, the joys of a single garage.

Can anybody advise a source for a flywheel? I'm not sure what the standard size is, though I think it's 215mm (8.5" in old money)? Not sure if I should go for a 2nd hand cast or fork out for a steel one which all seem to be lightened?

I have an original 2.0L one going spare if you decide to stick with it - not sure of the measurement but I can check when I get back tomorrow evening

Cheers

The 2.0 Weber carb will be o.k. but if you decide you would like more GO then don't bother with twin 40's, just get a set of bike carbs & suitable manifold. Superb modification for a Pinto, rev forever (100 in 3rd) and silky smooth at a very low tick over - Phil from MK CapriCare saw mine & couldn't believe how slow it was ticking over without stalling.

One step at a time, I'll start with the Webber and go from there. I still have a hankering for a V8.....

The Weber will be fine with a K&N or similar & full flow exhaust on a 4-branch.
Bike carbs are good on fuel *see disclaimer, my 2.0 will do 36.5mpg at a steady 70mph. * disclaimer: WOT with the supercharger on through bike carbs does not offer good fuel economy, it's not supposed to...

I have a rover v8 going in mine , weighs less than the pinto engine , and not so stupidly powerful that I have to worry about the diff /gearbox ect ( probly a lsd ). Happy to share ideas :D

You cant see the other blokes helping him out, just out of shot to the left, a couple of guys are holding onto that top hose and taking the majority of the weight.
I'm the one who leaves all those shoes in the carriageway.

Funny, I was thinking 3.5 Rover V8, it's light and not too torquey. I'm sure the diff and rear axle would be OK, not sure about the standard gearbox though which started me looking at Tremec T5 and LT boxes. I reckon I should probably get the shell sorted first though!

Toyota w56 w57 5 speeds are cheap enough and bullet proof behind a rv8 , with a land cruiser clutch plate. Googling them will show various internal and overdrive ratios
