Factory Original But Not Right?
What's the score with this, the headlight access covers are fixed the wrong way round aren't they? (Screw is usually towards the front of the car), and the expansion bottle is in the wrong position.
Yet description reads as it came off the 'production line''.
I'm discombobulated.

Re: Factory Original But Not Right?
No, it's not right Paul. It looks to have had repair work in that area and would probably just involve turning the covers to the correct position and drilling new holes for the screws.
To my eyes the interior looks like it's had a hard life for a 44,000 mile car what with the poor condition of the heater slider panel and the steering wheel, as well as the wear on the seats even with the crappy Laser material. All I can say is my 186,000 mile one is better than that apart from a dash crack.
The outside looks good for a car that's had a partial repaint and a pair of pattern wings.

Thank you Paul. Yes it looks to be a good car but the description doesn't quite tally with what we can see.

Re: Factory Original But Not Right?
Well the expansion vessel has to be there as it won't fit in the standard position with the bike carbs (not sure which model came out of the factory with those..). Also looks like it's had some work beyond changing wings looking at the slam panel, and whoever sprayed it couldn't be arsed to mask off the bonnet stay

Re: Factory Original But Not Right?
Radiator cover and timing belt covers are missing also. I know all these things are only small but when a seller makes comments akin to how the car left the factory then it makes you find these things, and also makes you wonder what else you may be misled about. Honesty is best. Looks to be a nice enough car.

Re: Factory Original But Not Right?
It seems to be bid up to quite strong money already, but not quite at the £9995 that the seller states that it's worth.

Re: Factory Original But Not Right?
Given the wear to the seats, the lack of side stripes and the apparent absence of any sort of scuff marks around the door locks and handles I would be surprised if the car hasn't had more paintwork than is mentioned. Could still be really solid of course but the outside is too clean compared to the interior.

I can confirm that’s it’s a Pinto

Re: Factory Original But Not Right?
I worry when they say `no rot` yet both wings have been replaced, and there`s been a whole lot of new paint. Plus the wear around the heater control and on the steering wheel. That`s not 44k.
Re: Factory Original But Not Right?
Just out of curiosity, I checked the MOT history, and whilst it passed in Sept with no advisories, the fail in March suggests it`s not the pristine example suggested. If I``d paid £6k, I`d be worried (esp. `Rear Vehicle structure corroded to the extent that the rigidity of the assembly is significantly reduced` both sides.
Do not drive until repaired (dangerous defects):
Rear Brakes imbalanced across an axle by more than 50% Axle 2 (1.2.1 (b) (ii))
Repair immediately (major defects):
Horn not working (7.7 (a) (ii))
Nearside Rear Stop lamp(s) adversely affected by the operation of another lamp side lamp/brake lamp interaction (4.3.3 (b))
Nearside Rear Inner Vehicle structure corroded to the extent that the rigidity of the assembly is significantly reduced spring hanger corroded (6.1.1 (c) (i))
Offside Rear Vehicle structure corroded to the extent that the rigidity of the assembly is significantly reduced spring hanger corroded (6.1.1 (c) (i))
Offside Rear Outer Vehicle structure is fractured and structural rigidity is significantly reduced sill /box section corroded (6.1.1 (a) (i))
Nearside Rear Service brake excessively binding (1.2.1 (f))
Nearside Rear Inner Service brake lagging in operation (1.2.1 (d))
Nearside Rear Inner Vehicle structure is fractured and structural rigidity is significantly reduced sill box section (6.1.1 (a) (i))
Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
chip in screen o/s
underside has corrosion

Re: Factory Original But Not Right?
Just because somebody has bid £6K on Ebay doesn't mean that person will actually pay £6K for it. As we all know, Ebay is rife with timewasters.
My instinct says that the car will be relisted for sale before too long.

Time wasters normally being the owners bidding up

Re: Factory Original But Not Right?
There are definitely timewasting buyers on Ebay, I gave up selling stuff on there about ten years ago because of them. However, I'm currently selling something, fingers crossed everything goes without an issue...
