Princess calipers

Post by mwillerton »

I am trying to fit Princess calipers to my 2.8. I have some black spring clips but cannot work out where they go? Also do I need spacers? I have 2 shims on the caliper bolt and it seems ok?
Thanks in advance

Spring clips maybe for retaining the brake pads?

The bolts need spacing washers that you seem to have and the calipers need splitting and spacing as well so you will also need longer bolts and new seals before bolting back together.

There are some pics part way down this page that may help

Thanks Peter. They are the retainers and I got them in the right place it's just they are too small for the wide body caliper! Got told by the seller they don't bother including the larger size as nobody uses them? Anyway I have sourced new bigger ones. Tha ks for the help

This is the kit you would need to fit princess calipers. Why not have a look at a willwood caliper kit ? The princess was a good mod 20 years ago .....bit old hat now ,and they weigh a ton ;)

I used the original spring clips.
Cut the spacer in half and put a small spacing 'tube' on the retaining pin to hold the two halves in place.
Fiddly to set up, but worked for years on all th Capris I fitted them on.

Bit of a giggle cutting spring steel in half though. Wear googles cos if they slip they go for miles.
Maybe paint them dayglo orange too, just to have half a chance of finding them again :)

That's what I did on the other Capri :)
