Do these radios have an onboard battery (cr2032 or similar) or caps or do they simply take power from the car battery? If there's some internal power supply that may stop a full reset from working unless thats disconnected too? Thinking aloud!

I have not seen anywhere a descrition of an internal battery on these radios, they have a permanent live from battery which maintains the code memory and a switched live

Well, I put in the cd player for the weekend to download and it worked fine. Will try the ford radio again when I get a minute. Hectic at moment!
On another positive note, travelled nearly 400 miles the weekend in it and run like a dream. Gutless but it is a 1.6 !
Comfy, quiet and nothing like the Capri. Never replace the Capri though!

Just an update. After reading through all the comments and advice I finally got it working.
I left the key in position one as stated, left it for about 30 minutes and voila! Entered code and we now have a working radio!
Thanks again folks, where would we all be without you!
