Selling my Capri

Post by Bobpool »

I'm going to sell my Capri. I bought it earlier this year as a none runner. It currently has 11 months MOT and is running well. The interior was stripped out cleaned and refitted,Dashboard was recovered in the grey leather. I already have two car's and just don't have the room for another. Don't want to see it just sitting in the garage and not being used. I'm happy to see it back on the road but it needs to be finished.A few rust spots and the Sunroof needs doing but it does have a new seal on it. A few spare parts are going to go with it.

Question is how much should I put it on Ebay for ?

Personally, I would take some pics and put it on here. If you are on Facebook put it on Capri World and Capri Laser, also Car and Classic.

Ebay isn't always the best place to sell, too many people messing around and often with no money.

Re price; Ideally you need to cover what the car owes you, and hopefully make a little too :)

Looks like an honest listing and a fair price to start it off with. The send-me-£200-before-you-come-to-collect-the-car bit might put some off though. I certainly wouldn't do that unless I have been to visit the car beforehand.

Fed up with ebay people who just buy stuff as a hobby and don't pay. Know doubt I'll get one and have to relist.

Already getting some stupid question from people with zero feedback.

Fair point, I don't know about anyone else who would buy a car (especially a capri) without looking at if first though?

I've always checked a car over or asked a friend to have a look.

With a 33 year old car you would be a bit stupid not to have a look really.

I've now added to the auction £200 deposit not required. Looking at it and I agree.

You do now :)

But of course when collecting a car you have won on ebay, if the info wasn't accurate than you would not pay. If the listing was correct, then you should pay the amount you have bidded and collect the car.

Good decision that I think. As long as your description/info is accurate, then the winning bidder (assuming it isn't a time wasting idiot), should be happy and collect the car and pay in full without issue.

Don't forget that they will have already bought the car, they are not there to haggle like many think it's acceptable to do so! Just like any auction, you pay what you bid.

How people will approach it is dependent on how you advertise it on Ebay; whether for Auction, for a Buy It Now price or a Classified advert. Each have their merits
In the case of a classified ad you will find buyers who are more likely to want to view and will be more likely to be happy with leaving a deposit to secure the car whilst they arrange the cash etc.

I found it's really worth getting their phone numbers on the pretext you can call them in case you have to go out etc. Its funny how much more responsible people are as prospective buyer when they know you have their number.

As predicted, time wasters on eBay.

It’s going back on again today.

I hate to say 'I told you so' :(

There are no penalties for time wasters, so it is to be expected!

Bidders should have to pay a fee (Say £20 through Paypal) to bid, and if they win and the item is collected or they lose then they get their fee back.

:goodluck: The next time.

Put it back on with the best offer option and sold straight away. Seller has been in contact and picking it up at the weekend.
