1969

Post by stevemarl »

Amazing when you think: Concorde`s first flight, Led Zep`s 1st album, birth of the Capri, and man walking on the moon - all in one year!!! No wonder as a kid it seemed like the future was just an unlimited mass of possibilities.

Yes, well...

Trafalgar Square to watch the Moon Landing. Dad turned bright green at the top of the Post Office Tower.
Were we actually watching "One giant leap" or were those guys in a studio in deepest Nevada...

You see, when people say `wow, that`s AMAZING; that`s AWESOME, they really, really don`t know what amazing means.

`A studio in Nevada` - tut tut! Although it did seem odd that at that time we could just barely get TV signal from America, yet the moon seemed no problem ;)

I forgot, we were also at that time the holders of the World Cup.
And TV had the first ever episode of the Clangers. What a year!

I was born in 1969 and what a year to be born as you say what man has done in this 50 years . I watched the landing documentary on BB2 last night and how they got there and back is amazing . But I heard a woman say “ what next Mars “ I wonder if we will see this landing ?

Also where will our capris be in 50 years ? Or will they be just museums pieces ?

Me too, that`s what got me thinking.
I can see getting petrol for them will be a problem in 2069. But then, we`ll all be wiped out by then, someone will have pressed the button.

Sabbath also recorded their debut album in one day on 16th October 1969

In 50 years what milestones will 2019 be remembered for :headscratch:

Funny in 84 when the war broke out in the Falklands ( sounds like my grandad now  ) we was at school and all thought we would be called up to fight . Now yes it’s just one press of a button and it’s all over .

With Trump , Johnson , Kim on pong and putin what hope have we got . But yes I agree with Steve anybody missed the moon landing on bbc2 well worth getting it on catch up .
