Heater control illumination

Post by 80s-new-man »

Hi , it’s such a long time ago, but something inside me says there was illumination in the heater control in mmm 2s and mk3s, I noticed when I was taking my new mk3 out night time and there was nothing there, so I couldn’t adjust the heater .. hah wife was complaining, mine has also got a white dial conversion which includes the heater control..is it that , that actually covers any illumination, if so I don’t see the point!
Cheers

Hi,
Yes, the heater control graphics (behind the sliding controls) are illuminated by a T5 wedge bulb.

Andrew.

:D ah! Thanks Andrew, so I guess by sticking the white cover over, it blocks the illumination? ...Bonkers.
I might take the white cover off, TBPH!

Check that the bulb hasn't gone first before you remove the white cover. The standard black fascia itself is a vinyl sticker, mostly opaque but with coloured translucent sections for the illumination to shine through. i replaced mine a while ago as it had a few scratches.

The white after market ones from CCI are made to the same pattern so should work the same as this. If in doubt you could remove the ash tray and lower dash panels to shine a small torch through from the back.
