Big up for Jason....

Post by Fordoholic Nick »

Hi all,

To cut a long story short ( very hard for me  ) yesterday Jason brought along his copy of Steve Saxty's book to Deal to swap with my copy. We both ordered the Collectors Editions and as some of you know he got numbered edition 112 !! Now being the gent he is he agreed to swap with me so I could have his copy 112 to go with B112 :)

So yesterday at Deal we did the swap over so I just wanted to thank him once again and share this very special moment with everyone here who i am sure are just as excited as me... ...

Anyway Thanks again Jason. I really appreciated this great gesture. As said you are a true gent sir !

Mate book 112 had to go with B112 and what was the odds one of us would get it  I wonder in 100 years when we are up there in the Sky our capris will be priceless museum cars and book 112 will still be with your fine Laser nick .
With the way the prices are going up on old fine Fords they could be worth millions

I did read on Steve’s web site that book 4 (release date 2020 ) will be just about the pinto engine capris and how ford thought that the Laser Capri was the best car they ever built

Nice to see a swap market emerging!

Interesting I'm seeing that 82% of people want the Collectors Eds of "Capri 50". Same with TCYAPY where the Coll Ed is the bigger seller which threw me - there are those that only see value in a £30 quid book while there's the larger more premium £80 market.

I'm keeping costs down to £24.95 on Capri 50 using a softback with the Collectors Ed coming in a slipcase and signatures to match TCYAPY so they make a set. Then, this is the clever but, to tackle to £30 buyer they will be able to buy them as a bundle for £54.95 equal to £27.50 each. They are designed to be read together so the £30 buyers will be twice as happy!

Here's the Capri 50 details BTW.... https://www.stevesaxty.com/capri50-details

Enjoy TCYAPY gents.

I think that, when there are two versions of something on the market, people are drawn towards the more expensive as they feel they are buying something less complete otherwise, perhaps with omissions.

Just like buying an album which has tracks left off, or a DVD with a shorter version of a film. Better to have the full album and complete film.

No one wants to walk away with a product which they will feel isn't quite 100% when they could have bought another version and been more positive about it.

Just my own amateur thoughts of course :)

I think you're right. When I look at the reviews on the Porter Press website there's a weird thing. They are all five star (well one is a four) for both versions - BUT, the reviews for the Collector's are the ones that always say it's good value. Counter-Intuitive as that may be I guess the premium buyer is more familiar with buying high-end books and knows comparable ones are 130 quid or so? I fear that with the interest level in the signed Capri 50 Collector's Ed being so high I may have to get Rod Mansfield to sign some more. And all I have to do is buy him dinner!

Didn't realise he was so cheap to hire ;) . Looking forward to seeing the new book Steve, the package pricing with ' The cars you always ' makes it even more attractive. Good luck with the new book. :goodluck:

Thank you - I have the first PDF with me here in Pennsylvania and it's looking nice. This place is a parallel world of 60,000 attendees at a Ford enthusiasts' event, quite amazing.

A friend of mine has starting problems with his Tickford. Pump not spinning up and no sparking at plugs.

New Bosch pump. All fuses ok.

Does anyone know a good Tickford trouble shooter please? Car is in South Wales fyi.

Many thanks

Hi mate. You might get a better response with advice on what the problem could be with your friends Tickfird if you posted up this question as a new thread over on Q & A section rather than on the tail end this old thread about Steve Saxtys book. With re to recommendations sorry cant help but there are members on here who do live on the other side of that bridge  so hopefully someone can help.

Out of interest I believe there is a special "Tickford only" owners club or register that only Tickford owners are allowed to join. I tried to join saying I had a Tickford Pinto but they saw through that one

But as Mr TK Ford has posted here, I'll answer anyway. :D
There is a sensor on the bell-housing of a Tickford, which it uses to signal the ECU. Check that's ok, connector still on etc.
I once helped Mick Millward, owner of No.22, to change his gearbox and we fell foul of that sneaky little sensor.
I believe it counts teeth on the starter ring or some such?
Anyway, we got the box on wrong and the damn thing would turn over but do nothing else.
