Bit more progress today. Fuel system time! So I removed the factory tank to install the IRS years ago, and I want to run a Jaz fuel cell. Because it’s a hatchback, I can’t have the cell in the car due to fumes and fire, it has to be enclosed in a box and vented to outside. So I got a mate with a sheet metal shop to make me up a big box, which consists of an upper and lower half. Today I mounted it all. I was going to use henk nuts, but they’re a bit of a pain to use, so I bought a new bigger rivnut tool instead, which does up to M10, drilled all the holes and mounted the lower box into the car, and the upper box to the lower. I also had to add an extra strap at the front to give me more places to bolt the lower box to the car, will do the same on the sides probably tomorrow. Pictures are a bit crappy, hopefully you get the idea.

By the way, I hate the colour that my painter did the interior in, I’m going to get him to redo it in the same red as the exterior

Did something pointless but enjoyable, and it gives me some motivation too.

Stuck her eyes back in, plus dropped the bonnet on to see how it all looks. Also installed the grill , discovered that the top of the grill was supported by the rad panel, which is long gone, so I’m going to have to make up something to hold the top in place. Might take the opportunity to move the grill back so it’s flush with the lights, will see.

You can see in this photo the extra that I put into the power bulge to clear the air cleaner, doesn’t look TOO garish, just tough 8-)

And one more for luck

It was all a bit pointless, as it will all need to come apart again, but was certainly fun to see it looking like a car again

Still working on the fuel system, went a bit crazy on the weekend and bought some -10 Teflon braided fuel line, new pump and regulator, plus some fittings, over $500 in parts! started figuring out where the pump and filter would go tonight, got all the holes drilled and riv nuts inserted, looking good. Sorry no photos till I’ve got it all sorted. Also change of plans with the interior, I was going to pull it all apart (again!) and get my painter to redo the interior the same colour as outside. However I’ve realised that is going to add a whole heap of time to the build, and I want to get this thing up and racing sooner rather than later. I can always come back to the interior at a later time too. Let’s just call the current colour “primer” until I get back to it :D once the fuel system is sorted, hopefully by the end of this week, I’m moving onto the wiring, gauges and exhaust system, once those three are done, I’ll be able to touch the wick and see if it fires into life!

Basically cut it off at the base, but left the rear still attached, then lifted it up by about an inch and filled in the gap.

Progress continues. Fuel pump, filter, fittings and hose is all fitted, used -10 hose which has an internal diameter of 1/2 inch, or 13mm for the metric amongst us, should flow plenty of fuel. Also made up a circular plate that bolts over the old plenum chamber, and made up the fittings with the new fuel regulator and then finally connected it all to the carby. Before I did the final hook up I put a few litres in the tank and ran the pump to flush the lines. The good news was no leaks!

And fitted the senders for the temp gauge and oil pressure light+sender, then filled the radiator for the first time. No leaks either! Speaking of leaks, I’ve had a persistent weep from the steering rack for a while, was annoying me, but not enough to do anything about it until today, when I tightened up the small blanking plug
Even ran the power steering pump for a while to make sure it was all good.

Bought a new air cleaner as well, not sure if black is right for it, but it’s growing on me. Still need to shorten up the stud.

I actually cleaned up all the shit I’ve got sitting under and around it today, I’ve got a guy coming tomorrow who is going to make up braided brake hoses for the entire car from pedal box to calipers, as well as the clutch hose too, so thought I’d better clean it up so that he can work on it easily , photos of that to come once they’re done

Love the air box as well, not the usual chrome and I think the black splits it up nicely :)

That’s looking really good, don’t have the skills or the time to spend on the car myself, so I’m in awe of your fantastic work. Seeing it come together shows just how much work & patience goes into a build. Impressed :applaud:

Thanks mate, I’m glad someone is reading these posts, sort of feel like I’m talking to no one on here sometimes. A lot more progress today, almost none of it was mine though. I got a specialist in who makes up braided brake hoses, after seeing the job he did on my mates turbo anglia, I had to get it done on mine. So the whole car is now done in braid, including the clutch line as well. Just waiting on a brake light switch and an adapter for the clutch line, then we can bleed it all up. Happy snaps to prove it.

Not sure why flickr did that with my last lot of photos, but you get the idea. Brakes are bled and we’ve got a pedal, accelerator cable is in, just got to finish the pedal tomorrow, exhaust is made, X pipe and two Chinese copies of flowmasters, sounds mean! Wiring is almost done, alternator now charges, just need the main battery cable and battery mounted, plus a diode in the wiring coz the MSD is being back fed through the ignition, and now the engine won’t turn off :xd: . Glazier coming Friday to refit all the glass, might even get a lap or two round the block in the next few days
