CCI Nationals 2019

Post by Andrew 2.8i »

Hi everybody,
Yesterday, 12th May, saw the annual Capri Nationals held at the CCI headquarters in Worcestershire.
We couldn't have asked for better weather, it was totally dry all day, the sun did shine but it wasn't too hot (although Rob might beg to differ  ). Unusually for Badgers Hill it wasn't even windy on the day. The Capri weather gods were definitely shining on us! :D
This is a great show as it allows us to meet up with loads of other Capri enthusiasts (forum members and non-forum members alike) to exchange tips and info and also to discuss our beloved Capris. It was a pleasure to catch up with Jason and his Dad, Rob, Dan and Barry, Mike, Martin, Altaf and Roger. Roger is Mike's mate who is restoring a Capri that should be on the road in a month or so, hopefully. He has also been mentioned on this forum a while back as he is the mastermind behind the car in this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=47292&p=309056#p309056
I can't wait to see some photos of his Capri when it's finished.

Anyway, on to the cars. If you like photos of Capris, you're in the right place!
Pre meet gathering. Sadly Dan was not there as he was running late due to traffic.

Image

The forum cars in all their glory! :D

Image
Image

Forum cars individually...
Dan's lovely Laser now sporting pepperpots. I approve! :D

Image

Rob's stunning gold medal winning 2.8 Special.

Image

Jason's equally stunning, and also mercury grey, 2.0 Laser.

Image

Gary joined the line-up later, and although I didn't catch up with him I enjoyed seeing his gorgeous car that seems to just get better and better, and 1st place in the mark 3 concours competition is a well deserved reward.

Image

And here's mine.

Image

As stated previously, there were some incredible cars there and as we all love different things about the Capri I've tried to include a photo of most cars.

The story behind this trailer is that it is towed by two different Capris

Winner of the mark1 concours. Absolutely superb condition.

I think this was the mark 2 concours winner, I can't quite remember :sorry: Either way, it's a fabulous car.

The 280s had their own parking area, around 15 cars in total were on display.

As a bonus, here are some photos of some of the various project Capris that the Club had dotted about the place.

I've never seen one of these in the flesh before. I'd assumed the panels were fibreglass, but the bonnet definitely isn't....Jason had trouble lifting it, luckily there was a strong young lad from the forum on hand to help him out!

Finally, there's that brilliant tea towel again.... :D :D :D

I hope you enjoyed looking through the photos of what was an amazing day. A field full of Capris, what's not to like? :D

Cheers,
Andrew.

Thanks chaps. The weather was dry all day, luckily, but it wasn't as hot as the photos suggest.
Hopefully next year you won't both have clashing commitments.

Thanks, yes it was a brilliant turn out.
All I know about it is that it has a V8 under the bonnet, but Rob had a chat with the owner about the car. Hopefully he'll be able to tell us some more...

I had a chat to the owner who said it is powered by a 5.7 litre Chevrolet engine bored out to 6.0 litres. Gives over 400 lb ft of torque, cant remember the BHP. Its sprayed in Plumb Crazy purple with genuine Dodge Charger stripes cut to fit the mk2. It also has some BIG front discs, drilled & grooved which I guess is essential, looked good too behind the 15" revolution wheels (which surprised me, only cost £280 for 4). It's also got a stunning re-trim in beige leather with diamond stitched centres on the seats & door cards Bentley style, a cracking job. The whole thing took the very talented owner about a year to do, brilliant job. Hats off to him for producing something unique but not over the top.

:agree: Have to agree Andrew. Some fantastic photos to look through, must have taken a while to post. Really enjoyed it, first time up there taking the Capri, actually felt like I belonged for a change :) .
Some brilliant cars there, too many stunners to mention & great to meet up with not only forum members but some really approachable owners happy to share their stories. An enjoyable day out & good weather ( still feeling it .. ). Thanks for the company, looking forward to Brooklands now.

You and me both! All we need is similar weather to what we had yesterday and we'll be in for a fantastic, albeit long, day.

Brilliant photo's :D many thanks for posting them, I missed talking to a few folks I had hoped to meet, always seemed to be side tracked, to be honest I didn't really look at many of the cars, daft when you think I was there for 6 hours or so, too busy gas bagging & socialising :D

I did find myself very drawn to the lovely light blue mk1 with a v4 engine, absolutely lovely.

Thanks again for posting these :applaud: :applaud:

My pleasure!
Congratulations again on your well deserved award.
I know what you mean about not having time to look at the cars, but then talking to the owners of the cars is half the fun. Unfortunately, I tend to walk around taking photos early doors when most of the owners are busy polishing their cars.

No problem at all Peter1
This is most likely the biggest gathering of Capris this year outside of Brooklands, so it's nice to let people see what they missed! :D

Wow. Just been looking through your cracking photos Andrew.

As already said, what a superb collection of Capri's. Love the fact that there seemed to be a good blend of all the Mark's too.

Echo Andy; will definitely have to make the trip up one year.

Thanks Nige!
I can't recommend the CCI Nationals highly enough. It's one of the few opportunities to look around a field full of Capris (I counted at least 77 - there may have been a few more) and to spend the day with people with a common interest.
Hopefully next year this show won't clash with Killerton House.

Just looking through your brilliant pictures of last years CCI show Andrew. It really was an excellent event & a real shame that events like this won’t be on this year. Who would have thought something like this could happen.
Looking forward to meeting back up with forum members, whenever that may be.
Great looking through these to get my Capri fix, stay safe all
