Police Capri In Wales

Post by pbar »

Whilst at a show in Wales this weekend (Llandudno), I was amazed to see this police Capri (just the second one I have seen in the flesh), and had a good chat with it's owner, very nice chap.

Lovely car, very striking and obviously gets a lot of attention. Very nicely restored too, even had police reports coming through on the radio.

Yes definitely a highlight of the show for me. The owner also has a 3.0s. He has many offers for the Police car but doesn't wish to sell. I don't blame him, must be fanastic to have that.

Full credit to him then if that's the case as it looked absolutely mint.

Great looking car. Not many Police Forces used Capris but my local Thames Valley had unmarked ones back in the early eighties - mainly Cardinal red.

Thanks guys. It's a great show this actually, a transport festival and extravaganza which the whole town celebrates. They even put free vintage buses on throughout the three days from Llandudno town centre to the transport/car show and back. Had a ride on 6 different classic buses, great fun and far more character than today's boring euro buses.

Sounds like a good show Paul.
:agree: Nothing today has character.

Some modern cars I prefer over others but none can match the Capri :D

Have to agree. When you spoke to him Paul, just curious, did he say if he had to remove the stripes as well as the roof lights on public roads? Looks great & in fantastic condition.

He told me that he makes just two alterations when driving on the road Rob, he puts a bag/cover over the siren, and tapes over the STOP sign at the back.

I believe that the rest of the livery is legal so can be left in place (modern police cars are that boring yellow/blue colour after all).

The rear STOP sign lights up too, much post a pic of that, very impressive!

Thanks Paul, saves a lot of grief. I only asked as was talking a few years ago to someone who owned an 80’s American ex police car & was giving it up due to the grief he was getting from our police. As if it could be mistaken for an in-service vehicle :D
It’s good that sense has prevailed & he doesn’t have to do too much. Great car, thanks for posting it up.
