Forum Upgrade and Adding Images to Posts

Post by Beakster »

Hi guys,

I've just finished moving the forum to a new server and upgrading the software to the latest phpBB3. There should be a few extra features in the new version. You can also now add images directly to posts, so no more messing around with photobucket type sites.

To add an image, go to Attachments at the bottom of the new post page. You can upload your images there and then click Place Inline if you want the image to appear in the post rather than as an attachment.

I think currently it's set to let you upload an image with a maximum size of 2MB, so you might need to resize some images if they are straight off your digital camera.

Let me know if you have any questions or if there are any issues with the upgrade or new features by replying to this thread and we'll get them worked out for you. :xd:

Hi Beakster,
Thank you for all the hard work you put in to keep the forum running.
This latest upgrade is a godsend for a lot of users, the ability to add photos directly to posts will save a lot of time and bother.

Andrew.

I've noticed a few other changes here and there. Most of these upgrades appear to make the forum a little easier to use, but the edit post icon appears to have been removed. Is there a way to edit a post once it's been submitted?

Andrew.

Edit: It looks like the edit icon disappears after a set period of time....

Andrew, the edit button now disappears after 15 minutes so you can't erase posts that may cause confusion later.

It means you can't go back and correct sppeling erorrs either..... :D

A small point of clarification: there isn't a time limit on erasing posts as long as it's the last post of the thread. For example, I am still able to delete my last post in the W-S-M gallery thread. You can't now edit posts after the 15 minute time limit has elapsed.
In my opinion, it might have been better to allow edits, but also allow forum users to see previous versions of the post, similar to how you can on Wikipedia.

I just checked the settings and the edit is available for 30 minutes after a post is made. Seems reasonable to me, but if people want to I can change it to always be available. Let me know.

Cheers

Hi Beakster,

Super stuff, I won't lie I simply couldn't get to grips with how to put pictures on the forum before the upgrade, I'm sure I speak for everyone on here when I say thanks for all your hard work.

From Beaksters post above;
"I think currently it's set to let you upload an image with a maximum size of 2MB, so you might need to resize some images if they are straight off your digital camera."

Not sure if that helps... :goodluck:
