A beautiful example, probably one of the best out there. This said is it worth paying more than double the price of what the others seem to be advertised for for something that you couldn't really drive or risk damaging?

Holy batman pants . Yes 6200 miles it’s a time capsule if I had the money I would move the mother in law to Mexico and get that 280 as a piece of art .

Or start a support page like www.remove.my.mother-in-law.com

I always think this - I would be petrified about driving it anywhere

What a stunning Capri.
It always amazes me that the low mileage cars are still out there.

:agree:
For many reasons they get parked up for years and if stored correctly that now reflects in the price. It seems a shame to use them now but they weren't made to sit around :headscratch:

interesting it did half that mileage in the first 6 months of its life!

Great example I couldn’t look after it that well, do you think it will sell quickly?

The 8k mile Special they had recently was £19k or so less!

From KGF Facebook page;
"Wow! Interest has been phenomenal and our last of a famous line, a Ford Capri 280 Brooklands build 971 with 6,212 miles is sold in less than 24 hours!"

Quicker than I thought but not really surprised....Goes to show there is still alot of money out there for these quality cars!

To sell that quickly, the buyer must have paid full asking price or very close to it. I just hope they use it a little.

It's the age old dilemma, isn't it.

Is a car with 6000 miles worth that money ? Is it that it is a classic - a Capri ? Does the age play this one way or t'other - as in is it a factor ?

There are subjective arguments all over for this. But one thing I look to is that older cars will become easier to keep on the road. Therefore, in answer to someone's point - would it be difficult to pile on the miles at this point in time, some 30+ years on ? It does really depend on your viewpoint, I guess. If it is cheap enough to run as an everyday car, run it as an everyday car. £45,000 is not everyone's money - but say it was £20,000. Can you pick up a Capri spec motor today with 6000 miles on it for £20,000 ? So what would a 6 month old Mondeo with 6,000 miles be worth ?

It's all subjective of course and yes, this one was worth double that at £45k, therefore, difficult to value whether this should become an everyday motor. There will be more tinkering involved to keep it going but it would be easier each test without warning lights flashing up like a Christmas tree and then being told - Oh, the body control module has gone wrong on your £5000 car and one of those with labour is exactly the same value as your car - £5000.

I probably said on here that I looked at the possibility of taking on a Sierra to do 35k miles pa a couple of years back because of their ease. Slightly easier on the pocket to buy than the Capri. I just couldn't work out whether it was madness / insanity / ingenius. I was certainly up for doing it, looking at the ads and seeing what I could get for £5000. I seem to remember a 1.8GLX with 20k miles. That would probably have suited me.

But fair play to this guy buying it at £45 or near that money. Will be a nice car.

Someone else asked what idiots do this low mileage pa ? OK, not quite asked like that - but they are rarities and who are these people ? But there are some people who buy motors new and then do nothing. I am afraid chaps - I am one of them. I have had my motor from new, bought Sep 2017 and covered a snip over 400 miles. I am on for 8000 in 30 years. Think I need to use it less often. :D

Probably will be dead by then.

As stated really its all subjective. It's worth what THAT person is prepared to pay and if the vendor sells it at that. This has no reflection on prices as it only takes one person to buy it and once they've bought they are out of the market, is there another? the rest might think no chance that they'd pay that. Its difficult without seeing a car as to how accurate the informative HUGE description is or is it all talk about Capri 280's? I will let you decide. It is easy to put a lot of information on to an advert without actually telling you too much about a car. He is a dealer and in the sales game, so good luck to him and its in the vendors interest to put sugar on things. I have seen an equally described car and let's just say it needed a complete rebuild to address issues that a dealer of quality would easily spot so dealer (s) aren't/isn't always accurate. This chap tried to by a MK4 Escort off me by email once, the car had less than 10'000 miles on it and was completely genuine, he tried to buy it after picking it apart or trying to pick it apart by email! DIDN'T ACTUALLY SEE IT! I ended the conversation and sold it to another dealer who sold it fairly quickly for £3995, KGF tried to get hold of mine for less than a grand. That's the game I know but still, respect for people sometimes has a value. The 3.0S in silver that I saw of his was four different colours and the body work fitted like a communist at a Tory Party conference. That's not me back biting that's fact.

As for low mileage cars it's very difficult and again all subjective, if somebody wants that type of vehicle then there aren't too many around. Me personally could you get better value for money? definetly especially if it sold for the full asking price. I have mentioned on here before about a collector I know of who has a fleet of unregistered cars one of which is a Silver Capri GL MK3, he bought them so it's his choice but they never get used.

There are clearly cars out there for one reason and another that don't get used and from time to time they find there way to market, there are also a lot of people with a lot of cash out there. Match made in heaven, most of these people can often be naive and ignorant to seeking advice from an expert. Whilst they're are Scholes of Fish they'll always be fisherman.
