Dash Speaker ?
Hi all, just need a bit of Capri trivia please. What Capri's actually had a speaker mounted under the dash where the famous speaker holes are. Think I recall Danny's GL had a speaker in the dash....any other models ? Thanks

I believe that any mk2 or mk3 Capri with a factory fitted mono radio would have had the dash mounted speaker.

Thanks guys. Yep was just wondering as I know Danny here was asking not long ago about his radio set up in his GL which iirc he said did not have any speakers ( or any signs of ) in his door cards or rear parcel shelf brackets. Only the one under the dash which was standard on the GL. Brilliant how simple things were. Was this the last Capri model then that had this set up as think it was Paul who said the GL was supplied with the Ford P21 Radio . You still see quite a few door cards for sale with the "no speaker holes" cut in them. As said it was only a "thinking aloud" sort of question prompted by a chat I was having with Colin at Cool Dash. Thanks Tom. You really do make proper use of those speaker holes then. They are not just for 'show' as on the later modes. When i bought my first Laser many yrs back I always presumed there was a speaker underneath the 'speaket holes' till i was told otherwise a few years later !! Anyway thanks again Tom. Appreciate your reply.tejb1 wrote:Hi,

Why they did this is beyond me, it's not hard to add speakers in the parcel shelf holders - I added my own in and just ran the wires under the carpetsFordoholic Nick wrote:Thanks Tom. Re: Dash Speaker ?
A car supplied with a mono radio seems hard to believe in this day and age! I suppose a stereo radio cassette would have been one of the selling points that the salesman would have used to tempt buyers to spend more money and buy a Ghia instead of an L or GL.D366Y wrote:Why they did this is beyond me, it's not hard to add speakers in the parcel shelf holders - I added my own in and just ran the wires under the carpets

Re: Dash Speaker ?
Well the radio fitted as standard could only receive LW/MW, which are mono, rather than 'VHF' (FM) which is stereo. Fortunately I'm a fan of Radio 4!

Re: Dash Speaker ?
When ever my grandad got a car from Fords he would always have a cassette fitted and get the radio on the back seat .
And that was with GL models only thing he always gave the radio back when he swap his cars in .

Re: Dash Speaker ?
When i first brought my capri I wondered why there was speaker holes on the dash but no speaker. Then I thought why did ford keep the holes when there's no speaker I just thought it was maybe a way of keeping the radio/cassette cool when its on.
