Moving on but still part of the blue oval club

Post by brooky »

Just to let you know that I have moved the capri on to a good home as I wasn't using it any where near enough

I had the ad prepared and asked my son Lee to be around if anyone replied as I was due to be away with work a few days but wanted to get it advertised once I had decided to do the deed, it was not an easy decision. His response was "dont bother, I will have it off you and I will let the Sierra go", he bought an XR4x4 2.9 earlier this year and is a nice car but needs some TLC so I replied "dont bother, I will take the sierra as part x as it runs really well , its basically the same engine with a bit of refined engine management and a few mod cons (Central locking, electric windows, all that jazzy stuff we have come to love) and I am happy to spend time doing the bits on it as they are nothing major.

So he has the capri, I have a sierra XR4x4, Andyd has a set of RS wheels I am going to have off him now he has moved back to a capri and I have found a place called SierrasRus that has every part under the sun so hopefully sourcing problems have been made easier as well.

Looking forward to doing the titivating bits on it, getting everything working and cleaned up and having something that will tolerate being stood around a bit better. Also nice to keep the capri in the family and still be able to drive it and work on it when I feel the urge, if I can get the keys off my son who has done more miles in the 4 weeks he has had it than I had done in the last 12 Months, nice to see a youngster with a big smile and the new grand daughter by his side in a 30 year old car.

Will still be using the forum (if that is allowed for a sierra driver :sorry: ) and would still love to be invited to the get togethers, I will park the XR round the corner when we do meet so you dont feel compromised

Hopefully see you all soon,

Mark

Hi Mark,
It's sad that you've sold the Capri but great news that it stays in the family. As you say, you'll probably be able to tinker with it whenever you want and you'll even be able to pop out for a spin every now and again. It's good to hear that Lee is already driving the car, even though it's November, and it sounds like he's really enjoying it. 8-)
Is he planning to bring the car to the 50th meet next year?
Don't forget that there could be a regular forum meet up at the Haynes breakfast meet (maybe once or twice a year). If you can make it to one of those with the Sierra it would be great to catch up again.

All the best,
Andrew.

I think you will love the Sierra Mark, as much as your son loves the 280 :D

Look forward to catching up at the end of the month, and as I have experienced you will be more than welcome at any meet as will Lee

Sad but good that you've bought the Sierra. The XR4x4 is one of my favourite Fords of all time. The first car I ever worked on, I serviced a farmers car as a YTS.Cross threaded a Spark Plug and took it off the road, he ended up with a hire car and I ended up with sending the head to be helicoiled. There is a worst story, I started a Brand new 1.3 Escort bonus without refilling it with oil. HCS engines are quite robust but not when you go on lunch hour.

XR4X4 is a more practical version of the Capri

Yeah I think you are right, I guess if the Capri survived the 4x4 2.9 may have been its future. They were really nice cars weren't they, interior like a small Granada Ghia, sat well on its wheels.

Very well equipped and comfortable car for it's time, and always popular at shows as is the 4i.

Always fancied an XR4x4. Came close to having a 4i in circa 1992 but never bought it.

I've had 3 or 4 Cortinas and a dozen Mondeo's. Never owned a Sierra. It was like an era with Ford that has been wiped from me.

Enjoy the new ride - nice car

Glad to hear your splendid 280 is staying in the family Mark. Hope to catch up with you some time during next year at some of the Capri meets with your son. Good luck with the Seirra mate :)

I haven’t had a Capri for years now but I do have an XR4i so we can park around the corner together! 8-) Although I need to get it back on the road first....

Nice to see you again Andy after so long, was great drive both ways with a few side by side speed tests during the journey and I can say the 2 cars are a fair match for each other.

Thanks for keeping hold of the RS wheels for me, they will look great on the XR4 next year, also thanks for the cup of tea and walking the dog

See you soon

I needed a classic :ford: to knock around in while I do project GBH so I recently purchased a P100 Sierra pick up.
Love Sierra's as well as Capri's and Cortina's.
Mine will be a great Capri parts chaser and I'll be able to hold my head up at some Ford meets with its low stance and banded steels........plus being a 2 ltr pinto, it's the same as GBH.......Happy days :lowrider:

Oh, and I too have discovered Sierras'R'us... really nice chaps.
