I will confess I did see the black one a few weeks ago think it was £30k then and yes that would be a keeper in my man cave .

Don’t know about the red as reading just last week in a classic car magazine they say only the 2.0 pinto engine is for the Capri and even more if the car is red :poke:

Both cars look gorgeous! :)
I generally prefer standard looking cars, but that red 3.0S with the half x bodykit looks superb in that colour.

One of those "Holy Topic Revivals, Batman!" But in my defence, I wasn't on here when some of this subject was discussed. OK, no defence then - I am just late to the game.

There was discussion about Bodie's car not being Bodie's but being something else and then people buying it, paying a lot of money for a car that was / wasn't Bodie's. You get the drift from the earlier pages. :D

This is rife in the classic car game. I know that some of you were horrified by this further back up the thread. But venture further into the classic car game, with Jags and Rollers - my god, anything goes. A bit of old scrap that was owned by famous film stars and they fetch staggering loads. But it is one of the biggest rips off in the motor sales game. All there is to identify it to someone famous was the reg and vin. But sometimes, they are removed from the original and place on a donor to show that the original is still around.

It really is rife and anyone who spends big money on classic Astons or Bentleys or whatever must surely be thinking that they are paying for fool's gold. If they don't, they would be alarmed.

It's amazing to me that cars with a celebrity/ TV association seem to fetch more money, well, the sellers ask more money for them anyway. Just look at that Roland Rat 100E in another thread!

Seriously though, is a Capri that may or may not have been on The Professionals really worth such an premium over a regular model? I don't think so.

Is it worth that money, with celebrity name attached ? Ha ha - the multi million buck question.

The issue is that there is subjectivity and then the objective "really what is it worth".

Aren't we all guilty here ? How much is your car worth today ? How much was it worth 15/20 years ago ?

Frankly, no Capri or any classic Ford, for that matter, is worth the money being asked today. The objective value is £xx and then it's someone's interpretation of what money is handed over. So whether you think that Bodie's ex-motor on the Professionals is out of touch or not, it starts with our own motors, probably hellishly over-inflated for what they are.

I can't really compute why someone would pay the equivalent for a Capri as a newish Focus. I know they are chalk and cheese, one is a classic, the other a bland hatchback etc.. The Focus has oodles more quality in it than a Capri and yet in someone's driveway, somebody is considering close to £20000 for a 35 yr old Ford.

If there is a famous name attached to it, it purely adds money to the silly game these classic Ford models are wrapped up in.

When it comes to The Professionals Capri's there are only Two guy's who know all about them! Wayne Armstrong & Alan Jarvis these Two originally looked for the cars way back in the early 90's (may have been the late 80's?) The only Two original genuine cars are VHK 11W & VHK 12W which they found and were restored by ASJ Capri Specialists and were at Ford Fair in 1999.

I spoke to them both at that show and they told me all about them and even trying to find the earlier cars SOO, VHK. COO, OAR & OWC. Apparently none of these existed when they looked for them, in fact several Capri 3000's were used wearing a false number plates, plus for example in the episode "Cry Wolf" they even used a LHD Gold 3000S which I only saw when Alan pointed this out and after watching and pulsing the DVD player you can see the wipers are Right handed (not left as per RHD) and the driver is on the passenger side as it goes pass the plane!, That is how well they knew the series. They did a lot of research and also were in touch with the Ford Press Office as I think they told VHK 11W down to them! Some we brand new unregistered cars. I saw one of the Two a few years later (I won't say which one) and what he said to me reading between the lines apart from VHK 11W and VHK 12W the rest which some how have reappeared may not be all they seem?

I think both these guy's have moved now, as I believe that all the cars genuine or not are in Northern Ireland. As with many things in life as time pasts people forget the original source ie Wayne & Alan. I have read many things about The Professionals Capri's which are untrue. I was lucky enough to meet the Two people who were there before any one else even thought about them never mind looking for them. It is thanks to them Two why VHK 11W and VHK 12W are still here. As for the others lets say I heard if from the original horses mouth!

Wayne and Alan are in the Ford Capri Documentary; The Cars The Star (Part 2), and their cars are in there too....Cry Wolf is the episode (Suuuuuuuusan)

VHK11W is my favorite of all the cars, and looks great in Tibetan Gold

There was an updated version of the book that I brought for far less than that, even the author from another forum, told everyone not to buy at that price!

There was no mention of the LHD Capri, but they did use a double for Bodie’s Capri when OWC was damaged; MOO 720V.

Another story I heard was when VHK 11W was being stripped for restoration there was Solar Gold found in places...that Ford resprayed it!

The cars kept on going though and never gave any trouble during the making of the show.

You have some good info there, Laserdude.

I thought OWC is a bit of an enigma - a little bit of an outsider. But I am wrong. It is still an Essex registered plate.

Today, it is more difficult to ring a motor because there are identifiers everywhere electronically. But the older ones are easily ringed and I think there are a number of people in this country who believe their car was driven by xx or featured on yy and it wasn't really there at all.

You got it in one there and that probably applies to a lot of the Capris on the road today.

When I finally get round to starting my 3.0S it has got to have a roof, both wings, outer sills, bonnet, front and rear panels and lower rear corners . Not much originality will be left there and it will have the second hand panels of at least 5 different cars grafted on to it. I'm still going to stick a 3.0S badge on the back when it's done as do most of the other people who have cars made from bits. In it's defence it has a good floor with chassis number still intact and a matching-numbers engine.

Incidently, the TV car I'd love to own isn't the Professionals Capri, I'd love Jack Reagan's Consul Capri GT NHK295M. Love it!

Nice car Paul

Jack did drive a Mk2 Capri 3.0 Ghia in one episode. It was supposed to be his own car I think.....

In answer to some comments and I can only relay what I was told by Wayne and Alan at the time. The term Myths and Mythology used by Alan a lot with Capri's in general was his favourite saying! especially when it came to The Professionals Capri's and all the rumors about how the Capri 280 was built, how they ran out of paint etc, etc is all bull shit! He said you just give in, in the end, as there are a lot of people who claim they know a lot but no f**k all!

( Quote "Unless the person was there, don't believe it. If they can proof it like we did then yes it's more than likely what happen." unquote) The book that is mention on here by Bob Rocca also has false information in it going by what Wayne and Alan said. I know that the Two of them weren't very happy with Mr Rocca but I never knew why?

Replying to what Pas2.8i said about VHK 11W being Solar Gold is a myth it was Tibetan Gold. It was Diamond White with a Red bonnet when the pair found it in the early 90's! OWC being damaged and being replaced by MOO 720V, again another myth. I wish I could remember everything they told me but sadly I can't. I can remember some things they told me so if anyone is interested I don't mind putting on here. There is a LHD 2300S in Tibetan Gold used in "Cry Wolf" check it out and if you slow it down you will see it!

One thing I can remember reading (In The Sun I think) when they owned them was the first Silver Capri used was written off, not on the set of the show but by a fleet driver when on a test track for a media event! They also said this information came from a retired Ford press officer who worked there at the time of the series, he also told them that most of the cars used on false number plates such as UOO 303T OAR 567W and OWC 827W were brand new unregistered examples often driven down to London on trade plates. For example I think it is in "The Ojuka Situation" OWC 827W gets damaged (front valance) but later on it's damage free so the car had been swapped with another one. It is the same with UOO 303T. One scene it has damage to it the next it doesn't. They had the letter's from this Ford press guy on display so would have been true. Back then a 3000S Capri would be like 2p is to me and you.

Ha ha - just still trying get this picture out of my mind that one of these was screaming around London in the mid 1970's on a film shoot.

Image

I know what you meant Paul - I was making a little fun. It was the famous Consul GT - a Granada base/sport model.

Image

And who was the driver - did we ever see him ?

Tell you what, to buy a Consul today (in the Granada form) - super rare!
