Re: P21 radio wiring
The top right will be speakers and then one live at the bottom with the right hand side being of key ignition live but please disconnect the battery and fit a inline fuse as these radios are getting very old now . Now the earth should be a big spade connection on the middle right or you can use the screw connection post in the middle . But I would not use this as the bracket on the back fits threw this .
A picture would help me so I know Iam dead right .
Update as I was off with a few things here’s a picture . You don’t have that white lead as that’s for a iPod .

Mine has an inline fuse from the ignition with a glass fuse inside a small plastic case, not sure if it was standard fitment or not, but easy enough to do if not

Re: P21 radio wiring
It was not a standard thing back in the day but well worth doing as these radio cassette really get Hot even with just a few mins running that’s why we all should not cover the air vents on top when working .D366Y wrote:Mine has an inline fuse from the ignition with a glass fuse inside a small plastic case, not sure if it was standard fitment or not, but easy enough to do if not

First the fuse in the radio is missing it’s bkavk holder ? And if hits any other metal could blow also the wires look like they have a iPod lead ?
I recommend to bench test before fitting .

Yes bench test use a old speaker and get a 9v battery and use that as the live and earth out on some work top . Just so you know where the leads go . I wonder if this is a 90s radio that had a electrical Ariel. .?

Re: P21 radio wiring
So your radio is from a later Ford as the back will not fit in to the very small gab in the Capri ( I am guessing ) also you will need the face plate that rounded at the corners . I have a picture of a 80s P21 Radio that young Dan has fitted to his and you can see that the yellow lines is the radio you have and the red is what size radio will fit in the Capri . Also the fuse must have a cover what will cost more then the radio to get . I know Martin has a few Radios as he may be able to help and he will not ask a mad price like on eBay . But that’s why the wiring is different .
The last picture is my Capri with the radio cassette fitted but you can see the plastic faceplate part you will need as at the moment you have a square faceplate .
Hope this helps .
Jason
When sorted this is the in line fuse you need .

Re: P21 radio wiring
Hi thanks for your help I got the radio working but would never have got it working if you never suggested connecting a speaker to it. As I thought the red light would come on the Tunner which I didn’t but got static through the speaker. Now looking for a p42 as there’s not much on mw or lw. I’ll give Martin a shout.

That’s great yes i am sure he had two with fm radio , I found a box in the loft today with the radio cassette in and need to sort out but loads of work on the bench that needs sorting before xmas . Also with the fm radio you can get a little transmitter that goes in to the lighter and you can stream music threw the system .
