Ford Capri Mentioned on Radio 2.

Post by Andrew 2.8i »

Anyone who was listening to Radio 2 this afternoon may have been surprised to hear Craig Charles interviewing the actor, Idris Elba, about his forthcoming film. They revealed that it is to feature a yellow mark 1 Capri. Craig Charles then mentioned he used to own a "copper colour" 3 litre Ghia, and - get this - he used to have to put two paving slabs in the boot to cure the wayward handling. Righto, Craig....

The show should be available on the BBC iplayer if anybody is inclined to listen.

Nice heads up Andrew :)

But why does everyone have a 3 litre with the old slabs in the boot thing.

The 1.6 engine was the most popular, accounting for a quarter of Capri's sold. But everyone and his uncle had a 3.0 (or above!)

Thanks! I thought I'd mention it here as it's nice to hear a mention or two of our beloved Capri on the radio or TV. Even if those Capris were laden with building materials... :D

Did I tell you chaps, our old milk man had a 3.0 Capri and get this he used to put crates of milk in the boot to stop its back end 'floating' !!

And our local farmer in North London :P also had a 3.0 Capri and he put bags of peat in the boot to stop it wagging its tail !!

AND.....our postman used to have a 3.0 Capri too and he used to load up the boot with sacks of mail he took home...to stop it doing the foxtrot in the rain !!

ANNNDDDDDD our local priest used to have a 3.0 Capri and he used to stack up the boot with cases of Holy Water to help stop the back end straying !!!

Oh......AANNNNNNNNDDDDDDDD our local MP used to have a 3.0 Capri as well and he used to fill his boot with a load of bullshit to stop it waving its arse in the rain :)

Ermmm..AAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNDDDDDDDD Our local serial murderer used to drive a 3.0 Capri and to stop its back end being a bitch to control he used to load the boot with.......

So you see chaps there is some truth that everyone and their bleedin dog all really did have a 3.0 Capri's "back in the day"   ........ :sorry: ... :)

If they learnt how to drive properly, they wouldn't need anything in the boot  :)

Perhaps that's just it, everyone back then was a builder's merchant. 'I've got those concrete slabs in the boot you ordered mate'.

And I think Nick has been possessed by the spirit of Bob Monkhouse!

Somebody could make a fortune if they made a cover for paving slabs. Mine are making my boot carpet dirty.....

You can get premix concrete in bags now so much easier....Put 5 or 6 of those in the boot :D

Or mix them in the spare wheel well and leave to set
