Nice eBay 2.8i

Post by Pas28i »

This looks like a good buy for an original 5speed 2.8, with low miles, from a renowned collector;-

Yes it looks nice enough.

Here is another https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1983-A-FORD- ... SwbEZbA1pq
I presume it will come with a new MOT for that price as it has expired.

The Blue one has got the wrong colour strips on it (a pet hate of mine) and for £22000 I'd want the correct ones on it. The White one seems a good buy as it's 6 grand less and you can see it's a genuine car.

Andy it's because people can't be arsed to do a bit of reserach what colour they had on from new. Most folk think they all had Red over Silver on which is so wrong. On that colour they should be Grey over Red. I'd put on photo on of the right stripes but I don't know how to load a photo on here?. It's called attenttion to detail but I guess most folks aren't that bothered yet folks are always going on about S stripes being in the wrong place on Sport models. It's about time folks put the right colour stripes on 2.8 injection's then

I just checked the Mot and it’s missing a lot of years but I think the car has done more miles then what’s on the clock as the ash tray has far to much wear also why change the head unit and also the steering wheel is worn ?

Here's a photo from the Ford Cars brochure of August 1983 showing silver (or grey?) over red stripes on a Caspian blue over strato silver 2.8.

Both cars for sale look superb, by the way!

I'm sure I have read on a webpage about all of the colour combinations for the 2.8 and the relevant colour stripes that were standard issue on those colours. However, I can't seem to find it anywhere, can anybody provide a link? Better still, can anybody make up a list?

Thanks Andrew for putting up the photo. I may be being picky but the Blue over Silver is a lot of money so needs to be right in my eyes. I don't believe a lot of these so called low mieage adverts, you just have to be very careful and check them out before buying.

I agree. So many of these cars with low mileage seem, conveniently, to be missing service records/history to comprehensively back up the mileage claims.

Completely agree!

Although nice, the stripes on the blue one are for the special.

The brochure picture stripes (on 5speed); were used on black, cardinal red, imperial red? and graphite grey, as well as caspian blue.
The stripes on the white one were also used on stratos silver, glacier blue and nimbus grey.

Not sure if there were other combinations but now there seems to be more choice!

Yes that's right pas but Red stripes were never put on injection special's they were Bungardy, this is where a lot of people make the misake. Stripping companies make to many colours that were never fitted by Ford. Shame they just didn't do the ones Ford made in the first place.

Nice! It's not often that the opportunity comes along to buy a 280 with the original paintwork. It's up to £22K already, reserve not met, but the hammer price should go some way past that.

This stunning 2.8 Special is on Ebay for £13,250. That looks like a great price to me.

I thought the car and the background in the Ebay photos looked familiar, and when I checked I found it was this car from the forum:
