Which Oil? 1986 1.6 laser

Post by MiniMan »

Hi everyone,

Not posted in almost a year but its time to start prepping the car for show season. Before I start her up I need to drain and replace the usual fluids.

Coolant is fine... however its oil Im confused about. I used to always use Millers Classic 20w - 50w Oil. Unfortunately theyve rebranded and changed all there oils!!! I cant figure out which one is the direct replacement.

Can anyone recomend a decent oil for a 1986 1.6 laser, d reg.

Thanks in advance as always and hopefully she starts up no problem.

Put you reg into Opie Oils for a list of their recommendations.

You may find there are cheaper sellers of the same oils elsewhere on ebay or local motor factors.

Stay well clear of Halfords 20w50w classic oil ! My 2.0 laser used to put out blue smoke on start up using that oil . I now use castrol Gtx 10w40 with much better results no blue smoke on start up and I never need to top up the oil between oil changes , so I would go for Gtx every time .

A third vote for 10/40 here, and Castrol GTX for me too.

:agree:

After Dave's advice I decided to give Valvoline VR1 a go in the Pinto rather than the GTX 10/40 I had been using, and B112 has been running super on it so I am converted to Valvoline 20/50 :)

Hi mate. Great to see you back here fella and all is good with your Capri. Nice one. Mate that looks the right stuff VR1 Racing. The one I got only last year was in a different tub but its the same stuff. Here's one a couple of pounds cheaper and comes with a free oil change kit :)
