Queen Square February 2018.

Post by Andrew 2.8i »

Here are some highlights from a cold winter morning at the recent QS meet. I hope you enjoy looking through the photos.

Superb Ranchero, often used by it's owner for drag racing.

As I often say, the beauty of this meet is the sheer variety of cars that are present. Everything from brand new Ferraris to this 1906 Peugeot and everything inbetween. This car seems to be missing most of the original body, but it was good to see it nonetheless.

In my opinion, you can't really grumble with that sort of turn out of cars for a February meet. Roll on March! :D

Thanks Andrew,
It looked cold out of the sun but again not a bad turnout for the time of year, some nice 80's Fords and some not so familiar...

Roll on springtime lets get back out there :D

Hi Andy,
It was a better turn out than I could have wished for at this time of year.
I guess that a lot of Fords are still sorned, so fair play to the RS1800 owner. According to the Hagerty valuation tool, that's now worth a cool £72,000!
The spring weather should bring out some more classics, and in my opinion, it can't come soon enough......

A great turnout Andrew, as always it's a great mix of everything. My son was saying the organisers have been under a lot of pressure from the classic car fraternity moaning that 'it's not what it used to be' & are calling for segregated classic vs modern meets. Just can't see that working, don't get me wrong I enjoy classic shows, go to enough of them myself. I like QS because it's not a classic show :)
That RS1800 was and is a special car, love it. For my money though, I'd have that white 308 GTS for about the same price. Great pictures, thanks for uploading them.

Hi Rob,
A lot of the people who were involved in the early years will tell you that there are too many modern cars, it's not like it used to be, etc. While it's true to say that there are far more moderns than there used to be when I started going, that is not necessarily a bad thing. I agree with you that the variety of cars is what makes this a superb meet. Along with the location and atmosphere, of course.
The chap who runs the Facebook page says he is introducing "themed" months. As it happens, he wants March to be a month for pre '85 classics. Unfortunately, those wishes will be impossible to enforce as the meet is held in public and is open to everyone....
We'll see as it goes though. It's great to see that the increased police presence and the threat of parking tickets is not enough to deter so many cars from turning up.

Nice pics as always Andrew, thanks for continuing to put them up for us all to enjoy. A couple of the private number plates I spotted there must be worth a fortune, THE 911 for example! Though I much prefer that white Porsche, thing of beauty those are, and just like the Capri, white really suits them. Not often you see an E Type Jag either at these kinds of shows. Would love to have that red 1.1 Fiesta though, a classic car to use all the time and have great fun in!

Hi Paul,
That's good of you to say, thank you.
Generally, I'm not a huge fan of personalised plates, especially the cheap Irish ones, but something classy like THE911 is just brilliant!
The E-types (if you look closely, you'll see that there were two of them, both the same colour) were both immaculate. Goodness knows how much they are worth these days, so it's great that the owners drive them during the winter months.
The more down to earth classics, like the Fiesta, also attract a great deal of attention from the public, and rightly so!

That's just what I meant about the E Types, due to what they are worth then unless you have wealth yourself, how could you drive it around much. As much as I would like to have one for the purpose of investment, I would love that Fiesta just as much for the purpose of enjoyment. Scooting around in that would be so much fun, and tinkering with it on a late cold night in the garage to keep it road worthy, it would feel great. In fact I think I'd rather have that over the E Type!

Very nice Andy. Think I would suffer with the too good to drive syndrome with that one though, You would literally see dozens of these a day at one time, it's madness that now you would be amazed to see just one.

:agree: Paul,
He only drives it on dry days, but when he has been caught out with rain he takes the wheels off and cleans under the arches....Too clean for me to drive and enjoy properly. Clean and tidy yes, concourse no.

It's so basic it's amusing, but everyone loves them :)

:agree: It's my favourite Fiesta, I know the XR2 is quicker but the looks on the Super Sport are spot on. That white one is stunning.

They are ridiculous prices now too. Nostalgia now costs a small fortune :headscratch:

Liked the RS1800 and the Fiesta's but the values are getting silly even on XR2's. I remember buying a year old one back in the late eighties, paid less than £5K. Lovely car in Paris blue - or it was until I split up with my bitch of an ex and she took off with it! Still got my little Mk2 1.1 Pop plus, ought to get it MOT'd and bring it down sometime.

My other favorite in this bunch of pictures has to be, dare I say it, the Capri's arch-nemisis - the green Opel Manta A (Mk1). Looked like a small European Corvette in some ways.

Paris Blue is a nice colour for the Mk2 XR2, I had a Caspian Blue Mk1 in 1987, but sold it for house deposit.
A mate has a Mk2 Popular(?) auto with 28k on the clock, previous lady owner. Bit rough to look at but drives ok.
Mk1 and 2's are very popular with visitors at car shows now.

I know what you mean about the Manta A.
I drove a 2.0 Manta GTE Hatchback in the late 80's (When it was popular to go to car dealers on a Sunday and take cars out for a spin :D) but wasn't impressed with the performance after driving my XR3i.
