Re: I have new bits ......
Hi Jason,
I look forward to seeing some photos of your bling!
I think it is possible to go seriously over the top with too many of the Mirage parts, but it's OK in moderation.
By the way, you can save money by polishing steel parts yourself. With a bit of work the headlight relay, for example, can be polished to a chrome-like finish.
Andrew.

Re: I have new bits ......
That's funny I was thinking if it would polish up and I have a watch clock cleaner with a silver cover coat I was thinking of using
But with most things it's best to try it on something first as the silver powder does not like electric . So I would have taken it apart and is that a easy job .
So finding out it just cleans and polish up I would have done that . don't know sometimes I think I look to deep in to a project .
20 odd years ago when I worked on the Capri I did many things with out a worry but now older I plan a job to much like the sunroof winder I want to sort out the pitting I have on the inside , so only I know it's there yes easy job but if the black knob falls off or I break the thing they go for stupid money on eBay and look a lot worse then mine .
So as I have read on here and they are great words " don't fix something that's not broken "
Wise words and so true ........

Hi,
Nice looking bling parts you've got there!
At the moment, I think you've got just the right amount of chrome parts and haven't gone over the top with it. If I was being fussy, I would polish up the exposed mounting lugs of the original headlight relay to match your chrome cover. However bad it is, it can polish up like this:

Re: I have new bits ......
Your right about cleaning up the DINITROL on the car I tried today with a tooth brush right at the bottom of the car tried using the tar remover from autoglym as a start but only got like a top coat of and when wiped made no difference.
I do have some harsh sticker remover stuff but worried as I don't think they clear coated under the bonnet .
It's really good stuff the DINITROL but a pain to remove .
Will have a think about what to use

Re: I have new bits ......
Hi Jason.
Nice one fella
As Andrew has said those few bits you have had chromed do look very nice indeed. I do like the radiator panel with the personalised addition of 'ford capri'. Nice touch ! Just as Andrew said its not too much chrome parts either so well done mate. Looks very nice.
As I said originally though the most important thing is that you like what you have done yourself as at the end of the day its your Capri mate. I was at a Christening on Sunday and got talking about Capri's with some guy so showed him a picture of my Laser and he made a big thing about the fact I removed the air box and replaced it with a K&N filter "oh...thats not original is it...wont that de-value it"
All the best Jason and keep up the great work fella.
Nick

Re: I have new bits ......
Funny as I thought the filter looks good on the Capri engine , yes your right I am happy with the outcome I need to still clean up a bit under there .
I don’t think it de values a car it shows your looking after it also I can put all my adds to stock again .

There's absolutely nothing wrong with some minor personalisations, especially if the original parts have been kept and the car can be returned to original specification if desired.

Re: I have new bits ......
So have started my 2nd winter project , as Mr Nick had a perfect coolant bottle I thought I would get a spare from eBay and have a go at bringing back to life again . So just got this from eBay for a £10 first stage bleach in a bucket .

Great price! It's good to see that there are still some reasonably priced Capri parts on Ebay. It will be interesting to see how well it comes up after a bleach bath.Jasonmarie wrote: So just got this from eBay for a £10 first stage bleach in a bucket

Good Luck with this resto Jason. Thats quite a job with that one you got. As you say leave it a good week remembering to turn it over so the bleach indide can work on both on surfaces inside. Whatever happens its gonna look a lot better fella. Looking forward to seeing your progress with this one mate. I washed my washer bottle in nothing but warm washing up liquid. It's amazing how it degreases. Came up super clean!Jasonmarie wrote:Yes as I soaked both my wash bottles in bleach for a week then used the tooth past trick . With Marie’s kitchen pad .
