Battlesbridge Classic Ford Show 2017

Post by Fordoholic Nick »

Hi all,

Well, what can I say about this show except...STUNNING !!! This really is one of the best Classic Ford shows I been to. Absolutely brilliant.

Had a great start to the day with a splendid convoy with John in his 2.8i Special, and as we came off the M25 onto the A127 Southend Road it really was a lovely drive down to Battlesbridge itself on a great stretch of dual carrriageway, and the weather was unbelievable too.

We bumped into Jeff ("oldfords") at the show who was displaying his lovely 3.0. Was great to have a chat with him and of course see his great Capri again after seeing it at The Ace for the first time last week. We even caught him with the bonnet up so could see his amazing power plant !! Great to see you and your cappa Jeff !

Steve, we tried to find you fella but as hard as we looked we just could not spot you. Wemust have been doing something wrong !! :( We even had another quick look before we left but still no joy. What a shame. Was looking forward to meeting you again and seeing your Lacquer Red Capri . Another time I am sue mate.

Anyway there really was so many wonderful Fords and far too many to take pics of them all so I have chosen a selection and hope you enjoy them....

So to start off I met John at South Mimms this morning. We attracted some attention and got talking to a few people too. I even got offered some free sun cream from a really nice lady who used to own a Capri and still has a burning passion for them. Anyway here we are in the morning sunshine...

Good pics Nick, I enjoyed looking at those. It's not often that we get pics of the underside of cars at shows on here, that could actually be a first! I don't blame you though, looks spotless, it's jaw dropping when you see them that clean isn't it.

Looks like you and John had a fun day out, nice to see members enjoying these cars so much :)

I met up with Steve (stevemarl) at a local show yesterday, we too had a great time. These cars give you so much don't they, I really can't understand it when I hear some owners of these beauties say it's only a car, I know a couple of people like that.

Glad you had a good day out Nick.

 Paul when I see a car such as this I am never shy to get down and have a peek :)

This really was jaw dropping stuff although my jaw was already on the ground getting this picture

Paul I am glad you enjoyed looking through them too. Its always a pleasure to post them up for others to see. Mate the standard of cars really was amazing. Was a joy to see them especially Arnoldhar's simply gorgeous 2.0S and as said a great chap too !

Paul glad you got out yourself yesterday with Steve. Please give him my regards next time you see him as he has not been on here for a while. Shame as like your good self he is always on hand to offer expert advice/help. I hope all is well with him :)

I really must try to get up your way some time Paul. As i have said before it would be great to meet you in person :)

All the best mate

Hi Arya. Mate it was on Sunday just gone. It might have been a bit later in the year last year but its generally around now. This years show crept up on me and John as sure it was later last year. I put up a bit if a last min post on the Events forum. You might not have seen it. Its a stunner of s show with some seriously quality Fords on display. Try to get to it next year ! Glad you enjoyed the pictures :)
Arya2.0S wrote:Never heard of someone describe the A127 as a brilliant stretch of road before though.
Arya, when you have just spent a week driving a bus and the daily drive around the streets of North London, driving the Laser in convoy with John's 2.8i Special on a lovely sunny quiet Sunday morning....as far as I am concerned that stretch of the A127 we drove down is a brilliant sttetch if road

It was the moment, atmostphere, company and the sound of my Pinto behind John's V6....life was just so dam good and I could not stop :D

Methinks it might be somewhat different mid-week rush hour though :)

Nick You ain't far wrong the Classic Ford at Battlesbridge was a top show this year.
Plenty of top cars and the weather was fantastic to boot.
Great to bump into you and John again.
Excellent photo's, all I can say is you must have the patience of a Saint to upload them all.
Keep up the good work though.

Hi All,

What can I say about this what Nick has not already said??? Not much, so I'll just post a Couple more pic's I feel deserve an airing!!!! So, as with Nick, the Cappas....

I was chatting with the Lady who was with this Car and they have owned this for 20 Years and it was the original Press Capri for 'The Professionals', how is that for a claim to fame!!!???
Image20170813_131253 by John Taylor, on Flickr

I know Nick posted this one already, but when I came across the Artistic shot I took and the effort involved in getting down there, let alone getting back up, well, I had to post it....
Image20170813_112642 by John Taylor, on Flickr

Now for the Best in Show for Andrew!!! Still amazing having met Andrew and his Capri before, seeing it still in this amazing condition!!! I had to post him cleaning it!!!
Image20170813_123544 by John Taylor, on Flickr

Well, that's enough of the Capri's for now. How about a bit of Cortina Power???? And trust me, they don't come more powerful than this one. We followed this in and I had to grad the chap driving it... I was glad I did....
Image20170813_105733 by John Taylor, on Flickr

Now look under the Bonnet!!!! 5.7 Litre of pure American Power!!!! Sounded amazing!!!!
Image20170813_105827 by John Taylor, on Flickr

Theoretically, this should have been one of the most Powerful Cortina's on show!!!!
Image20170813_121527 by John Taylor, on Flickr

South African Import... How come we only got the 2.0L 'S' ???????
Image20170813_121532 by John Taylor, on Flickr

Where now??? Lets move back to the Car Park quickly!!! Stunning XR2...
Image20170813_110012 by John Taylor, on Flickr

Just a quick breather from Fords!!!! I don't think you'll mind too much when you see this????
Image20170813_105650 by John Taylor, on Flickr

The Interior just as good!!!!
Image20170813_105639 by John Taylor, on Flickr
Something told me this had been some what Modernised for the roads of today... Especially as the Electric Fan was still running!!!

OK then, last one for the car park!!! Stunning Escort, which should have been in the show I recon!!!
Image20170813_105541 by John Taylor, on Flickr

OK then, we've hit the Escort's, lets stick with them a min or 2!!!
Image20170813_120137 by John Taylor, on Flickr

There really was too much there as usual for this show to come up with enough terms to say how good these really are!!!!
Image20170813_113046 by John Taylor, on Flickr
So I'm just going to let the cars talk for now!!!
Image20170813_112935 by John Taylor, on Flickr

Brilliant pics John :D
Must be nearly every :ford: model there that was ever made.....
That Mk4 Cortina 3.0S could be the same car that I saw locally last month.

Nice to see the Orion, which as you say is a rare sight nowadays.

Fantastic set of pictures guys, what a day, stunning lineup of cars & the weather really played ball. As always, both your cars looked amazing & the attendance of a large number of Capri's in the show must have made your day. Arnoldhar, your car is a stunner, the prize was well deserved. Like John, I'm a big fan of Mk3 cortina's, really like the mk4 3.0S in green too. Good to see the Orion in shows now, used to have a white 1.6 Ghia, loved it at the time.
Thanks for posting these.
Cheers,
Rob
