SPOTTED in High Wycombe!!

Post by D366Y »

Was driving up Marlow Hill towards J4 of the M40 around 11:05-11:15 this morning, a lovely 2.8i blue over silver and from what I saw the reg was something like E*** FNL??

Couldn't make out the numbers and I'm not even sure the letters are correct at the end but I was driving like a madman trying to take a picture but couldn't get a decent one...

Own up!

Cheers
Danny

I belongs to a bloke called Stuart. I had a ride in it last week down to the Surrey Club meeting. It's lovely and has got a 2.9 12V engine in it.

Don't see many around High Wycombe but there is a chap at Stokenchurch who's got a 1.6 Laser.

Cushty! I saw a lacquer red capri (think it was a laser) near Hughenden valley as well towards the end of last year.

That 2.8i sounds cool, would be good to see it up close one day if I ever catch it!

We should meet up at some point Paul, I work in Wycombe, dad lives there and one of the capris are there and I only live ten minutes away, would love to see the work you've done on yours,

Cheers

High Wycombe. What a place. Born and bred there. Most of my old fords ended up stolen. Upside down. In a ditch. One by me coming out the orchard nightclub. (Is that still there?)

Oh yes, the Orchard! It's gone now thank god, I remember coming out of there and ending up in many a ditch, and that was without a car. Do you remember all the reptiles they used to keep in tanks in there. A few of the women in there should have been in the tanks with them. It's only claim to fame was that the late great Capri specialist Lewis Collins used to drink in there too. Do you remember Tuesdays nightclub above the bus station in the town? What a dive but a great cattle market.

I've lived in this dump all my life and I've had a Sierra 2.0is and a 3 door Cosworth stolen off my driveway as well. Plus my Yamaha FS1E "DX"moped was nicked from Woolworths car park when I was 16!

I only stay here as I'm a carer for my 92 year old mum. If, god forbid, she goes then I'm out of here, Devon, Cornwall or Majorca here I come.

I must admit I've never been to High Wycombe, but from what I've seen of it on the TV I've always considered it to be an idyllic small rural town. After all, it is on the edge of the Chilterns. Boy, do you paint a different picture of the town! There's good and bad everywhere, I suppose.

That is true Andrew to be honest. It's big town with 130,000 population with a very mixed ethnic base and there are good parts and bad. I'm lucky enough to live in one of the better areas and right on top of one of the chiltern hills. Every morning I open my curtains and look down on a lovely valley where you can see Benjamin Disraeli's country house, Hughenden Manor and views across the chilterns for about 15 miles. That is nice, but drive 1 mile down the road and you are into some very rough council estates and there are a lot of drunks and druggies wandering about and there is a bit of prostitution going on in certain areas, not that I ever partake of their services. There has been a couple of murders recently, as well as stabbings and rapes too.

I'm a big bloke but I certainly would not want to go into the town or certain areas at night. That said, there is a big university here and most of the year it's full of drunken students.

I suppose these are just the issues any large town would have but It has changed so much over the last 20 years that it isn't so pleasant for born and breds any more. I was down in Devon and Cornwall earlier in the week on business and looking at the property prices I could get a detached bungalow with a double garage and an appartment in Majorca for what I could sell my 3 bed semi in Wycombe for. I love the west country, I have visited many times and I have family in Brixham and I now want a bit of it myself. I want to be a grockel!

North Devon is the way forward. More beaches and surfing. But the biggest town in north Devon is Barnstaple. Around 65,000 including surrounding areas. However you do get some born and Breds with the local-yokel syndrome who don't care much for outsiders. But, they are being thinned out as time goes on if you know what I mean ha.
Come down Mate. Beautiful countryside and moors and some lovely coastline. Iv been to high Wycombe a few times and personally, the best thing is the road out ha.
Might see you soon then mate

Hi,
That won't be enough to garage the seven cars you've got listed in your profile! :D
Paul G wrote:It's big town with 130,000 population
Wowsers, that many?
As a comparison, the population for the whole of Ceredigion is 75,900! The largest town is Aberystwyth, poulation 18,093.
Obviously, nobody wants to live here!

Must admit I'm going to have a reduction in the number of cars. I also own a 1995 Polo 1.4 that I sort of inherited from my mum. I can't bring myself to sell it because it's a one owner with a genuine 30,000 miles and the dragon green original paintwork. i just did a 500 mile round trip in it and it is faultless - and 49mpg on a run.

I'm actually getting the Robin Hood kit car MOT'd next week then it's going up for sale, followed by the Fiesta, then the Rover which needs a lot of work but has a good body. But I can't help myself - I just this week went to Corwall to buy the Pine Green 2.0S which was in member's cars a couple of weeks ago which I have arriving on Monday. Some of the cars are at my place, some at my mum's where I'm now living as her carer and one is at my mate's mum's house in her carport.

When I've had the cull of these I will sell my main car, the Octavia VRS, which is in it's eleventh year now and pool the money and get a newer daily, hopefully a new shape Octavia.

Andrew - I went to Aberystwyth in 1979 on a school Geography field trip. Didn't think it was a bad place and got served in the pubs even though I was only 17! I even climbed Cader Idris. I couldn't climb a bloody ladder now! I've had a few piss ups in Barnstaple as well!

It has been known in my youth but I actually rarely drink now and I only ever drank real ale - no spirits, I hate wine and I avoid Lager if at all possible.

I've had to give up more or less as I have a benign tumour on the pituitary gland in my brain and I'm on so many tablets these days as too much beer doesn't agree with me. Limited to about 4 pints now! This bloody brain tumour has really stuffed me, I put on about 6 stone due to the steroids I have to take and am really struggling to shift it.

It is D938 HMC, and is a 1.6 with no MOT accordion to the DVLA database!

It's taxed though Paul. The MOT database can take a few days to update, unless it was going for the test when spotted....
