Hi All,
im currently lowering my Capri by one inch, i have the front mastered but im not sure about the rear leaf setup.
i ve swapped from multi leaf to single leaf and i have used the Grayston 1inch lowering kit but i am unsure ive installed it correctly.
i've done it: lowering blocks, rubber pad, leaf spring, rubber pad, u-bolt retaining plate.
iv'e noticed some people have taken the rubber pad's out on some lowering jobs, is this right or do i say goodbye to my spine now?

You don't need the rubber pads just the bottom spring plates. The lowering block goes between the axle and spring The grayston U Bolts are crap also.

There are no rubber pads on a stock 2.8i single leaf spring installation.

As the others have said, the single spring set up does not utilise the spring pads. The u-bolts clamp the spring directly to the axle. So, from the top to bottom it should be u-bolt, axle, spring and saddle plate.

I have heard the same! Lots of people use the original multi-leaf U bolts instead, as they are longer and work with single leaf springs and 1 inch blocks.Caprigear wrote: The grayston U Bolts are crap also.

Have you tried just fitting the front springs and leaving the rear alone?
Years ago a mate and I both lowered our 2.8i's an inch.
I used blocks on the back but he only did the front.
Side by side you could hardly see any difference.
The rear end has a tendency to follow the front down a bit, plus you may well find that the single leaf springs sit an inch lower anyway.
I'd whip the blocks out, bolt the axle straight to the spring and see how it looks. You may be pleasantly surprised, especially without all the rubber bits bulking it up at the back.
