Ford Cortina meet at Ace Cafe

Post by Arya2.0S »

This brings back memories! My parents had a MK4 Cortina back in the late 80's which got wrecked when we were run off the road by some moron when we lived in Wales, it was a pretty serious accident like something out of The Dukes Of Hazard as we ended up jumping the car when we hit a grass verge and i was only tiny at the time being a little nipper and i ended up under the front seat somehow (no rear seat belts back then), but i was fine.
My dad repaired it and sold it after that, but we got another one in the early 90's, it was a bit of a banger (like the one at 2:26 in the video) as we were a poor family by then and it died one day and we dumped it at Rayleigh train station lol. They also had a MK4 or 5 (cant remember) Estate back in the mid 90's but this also had issues so we gave it back to the guy who wanted us to buy it, but i remember loving them all.

Brings back many memories for me too. Back in the eighties when I did a bit of car dealing all I specialised in was Cortinas. I had hundreds of them (and I mean hundreds) through my hands of all models but mainly MK4 and 5. I still have the tools for doing the void axle bushes and 50% of them needed them doing even if they were only 2 or 3 years old. Didn't have polybushes back then - just used to fit the solid ones from the estate model.

The best one I had was a 1979 MK4 2.3S in the very rare Fjord Blue. It was mint and although not much quicker than a 2.0 it was silky smooth and still had the V6 burble. Lovely, wish I had it now. CAP383T - last taxed 1990. Probably been recycled as a Nissan frog humping a rabbit Juke or something as hideous by now.
