2.8i front valence paint?

Post by Caprifan Rob »

As title, does anyone know if front valence should have smooth paint or 'stone chip' ripple type paint as standard finish on '87 2.8i please?
Thanks, Rob

Stone chip is what's on my 87. It looks very much like it is the original finish.

Mines stone chip Rob, but I'd have the smooth look if I had a choice. Mine was also stone chip down the lower sides below the mouldings, but not now. Arguably it gives it some added protection but personally I think it looks rubbish.

Buy yourself loads of Frog tape if you're worried about stone chips on the front. I was amazed how many people did this at Simply Ford this year

Thanks for reply, that's what mine had, thought it looked original. An incident with a tow rope has led to a re-paint. Wasn't sure so gone for smooth finish this time. Cheers.

Thanks Neil, I've gone for smooth this time, as mine won't be chasing concourse prizes anytime soon, I thought I'd give it a try. Frog tape idea sounds good, do they sell it in Mercury Grey? :)

You can 'bust' them quite easily so be careful.

I was thinking of getting one of those bra thingies as I think it would look good on a Capri, but obviously noone makes them for it so would need to adapt one from something else.

The bonnet of the Capri isn't really prone to stone chips though is it? It doesn't have much of a frontal area.
I have to disagree with you that it would look good.
