Mk1 Capri alternator upgrade.

Post by Kev Ush »

Hi,

I'd like to fit a bigger alternator to my Capri but I'm not sure how to go about it.

Am I right in thinking that old fords had an external regulator? If so is this it?

And a new alternator will have a built in regulator??

If this is the case how would I go about wiring up a modern alternator? Is it easy enough to bypass the old regulator?

To be honest I haven't really had a close look at my current alternator. I just figured that as the car has a 1300 pinto currently with pretty much no electrical accessories it's probably not going to have a very powerful alternator on it. At the moment I'm getting my capri ready for its new engine which will be fuel injected and for any other electrical accessories I might want to fit.

Thanks,

Kev.

That one in picture looks like external regulator. It doesnt matter if you use external or internal both regulators will work
fine in this case.

I have 115A alternator in my Capri. (Propably biggest possible)

Thanks for the info.

Do you know the part number and what your alternator can off?

The biggest alternators I can find are for a Mk3 2L transit at 100 amps.

Thanks.

If I remember right, it came from Ford Scorpion.
Just need a different size belt pulley and its direct fit.
