My fuel gauge doesn't work.
The temperature gauge does work, so I think that rules out a 7805 voltage regulator
There is fuel in the car (Duhh!!)
Shorting out the sender wires does not make the gauge read full; it still doesn't move at all
I have also cleaned and changed the sender connectors for good measure.
What is my next step? New clocks?
Any advice is greatly appreciated. My dash is in bits and the sun is out......

You'd be correct to rule out the regulator.
Have you put a multimeter across the two wires that connect to the sender to see if you are getting a live feed there?
Of you are, I would suspect that the gauge is faulty. If you aren't getting a live feed, I would imagine that there is a wiring fault somewhere.
Andrew.
Re: Fuel gauge not working!!!!!
5v at the sender connector, so I guess that also says the regulator is working fine.

That's fine then. I would have thought that the problem must be with the gauge (most likely), or maybe even the circuit between the regulator and the gauge.stroprock wrote:5v at the sender connector, so I guess that also says the regulator is working fine.

Re: Fuel gauge not working!!!!!
Try connecting the live feed at the tank to a known good earth rather than the earth wire at the tank and see if that makes the gauge read full. If does the earth wire is at faultstroprock wrote:My fuel gauge doesn't work.

Re: Fuel gauge not working!!!!!
OK, so it seems I get 5v if I connect a voltmeter between both the fuel tank contacts, but if I put the multimeter between the + wire and the earth point on the sender, I get nothing. What does this tell me?
