Pricey...?
Is it me or is this quite eye-wateringly expensive?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Capri-2- ... 2437796413
Someone please feel free to tell me why it's worth quite so much??

Re: Pricey...?
Compared to a lot that are doing the rounds it might seem on the high side but there's no way that you could restore a rough one to the same standard as that.
Compare this to the prices being asked for basket cases and then it doesn't seem so outrageous.
That being said, Capri prices still continue to astound me, especially the shit ones.

Re: Pricey...?
I think it's a fair price in the current market......If the car is as good as described.

Hi,
The car looks to be in fantastic condition.
I'm not sure about the seller's claim that "Absolutely NO FURTHER outlay required". Ever?

Re: Pricey...?
Points all taken, and I agree that prices seem to be going a little mental (and people say house prices are going crazy!) but £25k does seem slightly crazy... That 280 TT that is currently up on ebay is around the same and I would much rather have that just for the sake of it being a 280 and a bonus of the Turbo just makes it more desirable IMO.
There are some other decent looking cars on there as well for around 10k (one in Laquer red and one in blue over silver) and while granted they probably won't be as tidy it seems like quite a jump?andyd wrote:I think it's a fair price in the current market......If the car is as good as described.
Also couldn't agree with this more It also annoys me somewhat that a 1.6/2.0 can be anywhere from £1500-6000 but all 2.8/3.0 must be at least £10k+, in my mind there seems little logic there but what do I knowCaprigear wrote:That being said, Capri prices still continue to astound me, especially the shit ones.

Both the cars you mentioned look ok, and at sub £10k for the blue over silver car, if I was in the market for a 2.8 it is worth a look imo as they wont be getting cheaper anytime soon........I sold my 57k mile 1982 4 speed for that price 2 years ago

Re: Pricey...?
I agree Andrew it looks good but I'm sure there's more money to be spent on this one! I also think its a little expensive! Mines lower milage with a similar number of owners and arguably a more popular colour and its valued at £11,000 for insurance purposes. I'll be surprised if this sells at anywhere near the asking price.Andrew 2.8i wrote:Hi,

I thought we'd see the prices level off a bit by now, but that doesn't seem to have happened yet.

Re: Pricey...?
When did the separate door locks become standard, I thought it was in 84 (not 83)?
great example, and so is this mk2 that's still for sale;

Hi,Pas28i wrote:When did the separate door locks become standard, I thought it was in 84 (not 83)?
I thought it was late '83.
I definitely have seen '83 with the later handle/ locks, although obviously I can't say whether the doors or door skins have been replaced.
Andrew.
Re: Pricey...?
Good spot. You're right it has the later doors from an 84 car. Just proves you can't trust anyone who says it hasn't been in an accident damage or had any replacement panels! I'd be surprised if any Capri hasn't had at least replacement wings in its 30ish years of life or its full of fillerPas28i wrote:When did the separate door locks become standard, I thought it was in 84 (not 83)?

Not sure what this will sell for but at 10K currently I'd bite his arm off! And even if it doubles in price is still cheaper than the red 2.8 I originally posted about...

Re: Pricey...?
Very nice car though, especially if the mileage is genuine. I agree that it's too pricey, but the seller does invite offers on the asking price. I know that all sellers will negotiate on asking price, but if the seller actually says "make us an offer" it suggests to me that they are starting off high and may decrease the price over time.
Andrew.

Looks nice.....Although the trouble with repainted cars is how good is the respray and prep work???

The new paintwork could be hiding a whole heap of trouble. Why would somebody who's owned a car for 14 years have it resprayed then sell it?
I note that one of the failures of the latest MOT was "Offside Front Vehicle structure is damaged, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings Cross member". It could be something to watch out for if it hasn't been repaired properly.
