NEC Classic Car Show Nov 2015

Post by Caprifan Rob »

Enjoyed another trip up to the NEC this year with my sons, wasn't as many Capris as last year & only one MK2. Uploaded all the Capri's I photographed plus a selection of other classic fords. Was fortunate to see two classic motoring icons this year, shown in the first & last pictures. None should need any introduction..

Starting with the first, the pre-production 3.0S in Peppermint Green. The colour divided loads of opinions on the day but I like it because its the only one.

Plenty of great MK1's in attendance from Crayford to dragster,

The only MK2 plus some MK3's on the CCI stand, all superb.

Concourse 2.8I Special as shown by Pbar in another thread was unbelievable & as a bonus is the same colour as mine, Titan Grey (at least I have an idea what to expect when its painted), & JPS livered race car,

Chap Foose superb MK1 was stunning, as was Maguires winning MK2 from last years competition,

The only Healy Fiesta in the world plus an excellent Super Sport in my favourite colour,

Escorts, stunning MK1 Mexico & Wheeler Dealers RS2000 among a great selection of Escorts on show.

And lastly another motoring Icon I charmed my way past his entourage to meet. A true gentleman & a true legend, was fortunate to share a quick chat & shake hands with Sir Stirling Moss. All in all a very memorable day.

Thanks for looking, apologies for pictures not being as clear as I thought.

Brilliant pics, thanks for sharing them Rob. And you must have been on cloud nine after meeting Stirling Moss! I'm pleased that you got to see the concours 2.8, it's something else isn't it. That silver 3.3 Litre S with the black roof, is the one I read about in a magazine feature and posted some pics of -

Certainly was Paul, he's someone I never thought I'd meet in my lifetime & couldn't believe my own cheek in asking to meet him, a truly nice guy, made my year to be honest :D
I remember you posting the 3.3 Capri it's a great looking car, loved it.
Cheers,
Rob

Hi Rob,
Awesome photos, thanks for posting them for us all to drool over.
It looks like you had an amazing day there, what a superb selection of cars. :D Hope you got some inspiration and good ideas for your own Capri restoration.

The word on the street is that Minder Capri was on display at the NEC, did you see it there?

Finally, Sir Stirling has that look on his face that says "Who are you, I'm calling security" !

All the best,
Andrew.

Hi Rob.

Just as last year mate your pics of this show are superb. Nice one. I really wanna get up to this show. The standard of the Fords is simply mind boggling. Impossible to pick a favourite. But as far as Fiesta's go these ones are to die for. Always had a soft spot for that shape. STUNNING ! And the RS2000 too..... :D

But those Capri's are just out of this world. You wonder if any actually get driven though especially that beautiful 2.8i special. Surely this has never touched tarmac....But who cares if we can drool over them in this condition.

Nice one Rob. Glad you had a great day out. What a brilliant show and this is only the Fords :D Thanks for posting the pics Rob I will try to get to this next year.

All the best

Nick

:agree: He did seem a bit bewildered :D

Damn it, gutted if I missed the Minder Capri ! There's just so much to see I didn't get to see it all, still, there's always next year ;)

Cheers Nick, if you get the chance it's definitely worth the trip, but if you like your classic fords, expect to drool, a lot...

Thanks both,
Rob

Thanks Andy, plenty of mk1 & 2 XR2's there, all excellent but it was the Supersport that caught my eye.

As you said, it's worth going, bumped into Dan The Capri Fan at the CCI stand for a chat as well along with his mother who drove him there in the Capri, fair play, you've got a good one there Dan.

Cheers,
Rob

The XROC always have a stand there and the Supersport guys are also a part of it.
Its always the Midlands Branches that display though, although 1 member with a Silver Supersport lives in Devon and trailers his up and back.

Capri or Mother?

I've just been looking through the photos again, as I only had time to flick through them before. I'm in awe of the cars at the show, Each one is stunning. This is one show I've got to try to make it to next year.

Thanks again for posting the photos.

Your welcome, well worth the trip Andrew, wear some knee pads though so you can inspect the cars thoroughly ;)

I went along to see the gold MK3 2.0 Sport that I built for Darren earlier this year.Nice to see some other Capris but I was a bit disappointed that whoever built the minder Capri managed to get the headlamps in the wrong way round!

Managed to miss both of these, there's just so much to see at this event. Would have sought them out if I'd known they were there. If you've got any pictures (& time to post them), please put them up Martin, would be great to see.
Cheers,

Hi Martin,
I think it was refurbished by a Jaguar specialist, there's a few posts about it on the forum somewhere. They should have left the restoration to the Capri experts!

Found it, nice car but Terry wouldn't approve of the headlights

Did see 2.0S on CCI stand, if this is the one you restored Martin, it's a stunner.

Yes, that's the one. Totally stripped out, bodywork repaired and fully rebuilt. I was very happy at how it turned out and more importantly, so was the owner.

Hi,
I believe that's a glimpse of Arthur's yellow Jag on the right of the photo, next to Terry, also owned by the same person.

I wonder why John Hill decided to sell the Minder Capri? It could be argued that owning the car raised the profile of the Capri Club, as it has been featured in numerous newspaper and magazine articles. He'd owned it for a good few years and, I do believe, had refused offers of up to £20k for it on previous occasions.

It does look very good in the photos, as does the silver 2.0S. Well done Martin, that car is an excellent advert for your restoration work.

Andrew.

It's actually Champagne gold. The owner specified that he wanted that particular colour so I found a genuine original S in that colour, stripped it, repaired the bodyshell then Darren chose the bodyshop to carry out the respray then I fully rebuilt it ready for him to fit his choice of engine.
It was a pleasure to be able to build a car to a high standard which was made easier by having a sensible budget and an owner who knew from the beginning what he wanted to achieve.
