Can I fit a 1.6 fuel tank to a 2.0?

Hi, my fuel tank on my 2.0 laser has had it. I'm struggling to find a replacement. I have the chance of a better (if only slightly) 1.6 tank but it seems to have one less breather pipe than my current tank.
I was wondering if I could swap the tanks over with no problems?
I should also mention my capri has, at some point, had a 1.6 sender unit fitted as it does not have a return pipe fitted.
Believe it or not I only set out to change the rear spring bushes.

The 1.6 and 2.0 tanks themselves are identical so you can just swap the sender over and all should be well although I'm a little puzzled by your comment on the breather pipe - is there definitely something different?

Hi Peter, there is definitely something missing. It's the breather pipe (I'm assuming it's a breather) that runs from the top offside of the tank. It's only about 7 or 8" long and just clips to the lip of the tank. I'm just wondering if the tank is off an early mk3.

hi, there should be 2 thin metal pipes coming out the top of the tank one in each corner where a piece of rubber pipe connects from one end to the other end , as i remember i think its around 6mm wide . This is to let the air circulate around the top of the tank. make sure you have this pipe connected on both ends. Then you should have a breather fitted in a hole in the top of tank and a piece of pipe fits on this around foot long comes around level with bottom of tank when fitted and clipped on side of tank. it is very important to make sure this pipe clips on to the side of the tank when connected on the breather .the reason its fitted and clipped on the side of the tank is that if you have a accident and role your car upside down is that the petrol in your fuel tank will not spill out on the floor as this pipe stops it leaking all underneath your car stopping a fire . if you think about it and the cars upside down the fuel will just leak out with no pipe on off the breather , so when the pipes facing upwards the fuel cant escape out your tank all over the road hope this helps .
