Fantastic :) what plans for the interior, are you going to have a custom carpet made up or will it be more minimalistic inside?

No carpet, will be fairly smooth once I've finished, and then I'll paint the interior silver or white, rollcage and all. I'll bolt some alloy treadplate to the floor and make a footrest for the navigator as well. The back will get a helmet hammock, sparewheel carrier, towrope and first aid kit (mandatory for our regs). Pretty bare, but will do the job :drive:

What Series RX 7 front end did you use? what kind of mods did you have to do to make it fit in? Did you use the Capri steering column, or alter the RX 7 one to suit? Sorry for all the questions, am building a v8 capri and was told this was the way to go to make the conversion WAY easier

Used the subframe from a series 4 RX7, had to cut into the chassis rails of the capri, and also cut out the subframe and weld in some angle iron, all to make the subframe sit at a good height. Used the RX7 column, and the short shaft from a mazda 929, then made up brackets to make the column bolt to the dash. Will try and find some photos of it all if youre interested. This info was all given to me by a guy who stucka 1uz into his Mk1, and it works really well in his car.

I'll load them up here, don't think anyone will mind seeing them. Won't be for a couple of weeks tho, as the car is still with the rollcage builder at the moment.

Speaking of which, he has sent me through some progress photos, shot through the front screen.

Main hoop, floor bar, harness bar and diagonal braces.

Through the drivers door, you can see the dash bar, intrusion bars, and the forward bars that go into the strut towers to add more chassis strength as well.

Just waiting on paperwork from Motorsport NZ now to homologate the cage, then I will get it back and continue to the next phase, floor and fuel cell in boot.

Finally, an update! Got the call from my rollcage builder, ready to pick up. Went and got it with my mate Gareth today (he has a mad anglia with a 2 litre twin cam from a telstar that we gravel rally), and took it back to the workshop tonight. Hes done a brilliant job, all tig welded, goes forward into the strut towers, intrusion bars and heaps more. Sorry photos arent brilliant, just snapped some before I went home tonight.

Not much progress since I got it back from the cage builder, but have sussed out my radiator mounts a bit, using Toyota Cynos lower radiator mounts of all things, they are shaped perfectly, saw them on a car that came through work and thought, that'll do! Have also ordered a set of pulleys for the engine, Ford Motorsport stuff, and it allows me to run a belt for the power steering set up. I used to use toyota MR2 electric pumps, but they are heavy and prone to failing. I like the simplicity of a mechanical pump too.

Little bit more progress. Made up my radiator mount, which has been longer than I thought something so easy should take. Used Toyota lower mounts and fabbed my upper mounts onto my custom rad support panel, the nuts that hold the panel on are rivnutted from underneath the headlight buckets, so rad removal is quick and easy. Also means that engine removal is easy too. (not that I should be doing it too often!)

I've also been working on changing the belts to a serpentine set up, same as E series or AU falcons. Picked up a brand new timing cover last night for 40 bucks! Feel almost guilty getting it so cheap, someone has also polished it, so nice to have the extra bling. I will then use an AU waterpump, change the drive on my alternator to a 6 rib pulley, and then mount up a power steering pump off the passenger side cylinder head. Have been scouting at pick-a-part and saw one off an astra of all things that looked like it would do the job well.

Progress is slow but steady I guess.

Sweet project there mate.
I just love those manifolds :D

I saw a similar capri to that at Tickover in Dartford a few weeks ago, had a similar colour.
It was dark green on the outside and I think the bay and interior was painted silver.
Was a good colour combo imo.

Been busy lately, havent updated much sorry. Have made a power steering bracket, used an Astra pump. Also mounted my alternator and sourced a new pump. Made up an idler bracket out of some 4mm plate and some crush tubes. Also modified a nissan power steering reservoir and mounted that with some rivnuts to the inner guards. And then bought a couple of Jaz overflow tanks and mounted those as well. Looks nice and symmetrical in the bay.

Best news is that I scored a set of 17x8 and 17x9 two piece BBS rims with a set of race slicks in good condition. They fit, but only just. So I am going to source a X pack kit from the UK. Sadly due to the exchange rate and shipping costs, it will cost me about 2 grand! Ah the joys of wanting to different from the pack.............

looking great, been waiting for an update on this one! 2k for x pack? surely there is a cheaper way for you to get it done. get a fabricator to make a set up? just an idea, dont know how likely it is to happen.

Just love the look already, even without the X-pack.

I am also bending a roll cage this coming winter inside my blue Mk3.
Minimalistic interior is pr0n.

Cheers from Finland
