Queen Square April 2018

Postby Andrew 2.8i » Sat Apr 21, 2018 9:23 am

Hi Folks,
Here are some photos from the latest meet.
As ever, where better to start than the Fords, and the Capri is first on the list! :)

I've seen this one loads of times, but this was it's show debut on 15" CCI rims.

Fantastic as always Andrew! I think I'm going to make the effort to come down next month for my first Queens Square of the year!

Thanks

Does that mean that all went well with your recent MOT?
If you do go along, I'll make it the first QS meet of the year with my Capri too!

I've not got the car back yet, needs the strut top welding unfortunately, but I should have the car back by next month, fingers crossed anyway, I miss driving it!

I'll confirm a bit closer to the time but it should be all good by then

Good turnout judging by the weather :? All those Capri's look great.

The black XR3i was in your Weston Super Mare pics at Easter so must be fairly local. Not an XR Member that I know of, but our paths will cross :D

!600i with black plates......I wonder if he knows Jasonmarie

Hi Andy,
Yes, a varied turnout of cars as usual. A car or two for every taste!
The black XR3i usually turns up to the meets with the Capri boys, so I would guess he is local to the Bristol area.

Great pictures Andrew. Yes, that AC is stunning. Big fan of that 240Z also. That 2.8 looks great on club 15's, on my radar for a future purchase I think. Liking the modern super cars you snapped too. Looking forward to making it up there later in the year. Cheers for uploading.

Great pictures as always Andrew but it still looks like the middle of winter in Bristol - grey skies, bare trees don't they get spring in the west ;)

I thought I'd better mention this on the off chance that anybody was planning on going to the May meet at QS. The date clashes with the Bristol half marathon which has Queen Square as part of the route, the meet will therefore be held at an alternative location. That location has not yet been revealed, but as the QS meets that are held elsewhere just don't have the same atmosphere, the chances are that I won't be going. As far as I'm aware, the June date is carrying on as normal at the regular location.

From their Facebook page;

Update on next month’s location.

After a very successful meeting with a very understanding lady from the council it looks like we have a secured a fabulous location for the meet.
It will be unveiled very soon! We may have to limit numbers, but hopefully not. It would also be nice to make a small donation on arrival, but this will be confirmed.

I’m also hoping to make other locations a regular on the calendar to take a bit of pressure off the Square. So maybe every other month, or every few months we hold the meet elsewhere, this will also give us the chance to see what works well for us.

Look forward to hear your thoughts. But please don’t ask for the location just yet!

It's that part of the statement that worries me. Moving location turns this brilliant meet into just another car show with no real atmosphere.
The clash with the half marathon occurred two years ago, and on that occasion the location was relocated to a car dealership forecourt. It was mostly modern cars that turned up and therefore the great variety of cars that is the norm at QS was lost.
Don't get me started on the possibility of paying an admission fee....... :swear:

People are always trying to change or improve things like this, but hopefully this meet will remain as it is.

Pretty used to paying admission fees here usually £5 min, but often free for visitors  Only a few events are currently free for classic owners...
IMO, as many events raise money for charity everyone should pay £2 or £3 pounds, which would work out better in the long term.....

Slightly annoying as I've more or less got everything sorted and was working towards this as my target date! :(
June will definitely have to be my first of the year then!!

Sorry about that Danny. In my experience, the confusion over alternative locations means that not as many people go. Those that do tend to be the boy racers in the newer cars.

Not your fault Andrew, no need to apologise! I was just looking forward to getting out in what will hopefully be the sun if the weather ever improves  Just have to go in June instead! :)

Hi Andrew.

Just seen your pics from the April QS Meet. As always a cracking turnout of classics. Good number of Fords too mate. Those Capri's are stunning. That Black Capri with the 7.5j deep dish wheels looks spot on..hmmm...i seem to recall a young forum member here who's a bit partial to a Black Deep-Dished Capri..hmmm...

Great array of pics Andrew. I have to agree with Rob. That 240Z is very very nice !! No wonder you make the effort to get along to this meet. Good on you fella :)

Cheers mate

Thanks Nick,
I my opinion, it's the best car meet around. It's just a pity it's so far from home.
The 240Z was the star of the show and the best car there......after all the classic Fords, of course! :)

Advance warning: Sadly, the June meet has also been relocated to a council car park.
It's not the same if it isn't held in QS, so it's unlikely that I'll be going.

Frustrating to say the least, but it looks like my June has freed up a bit!

If they keep going at this rate I'll never make it there this year!!
