The Ace Cafe - Capri Day 5/8/2017

Hi chaps,

Well where do I begin.....maybe I should mention the rain....nah no need....or is there....bleedin hell there is !!!

Got to Johns at 0930 and the blue sky I started off from was soon swallowed up by some really pissed off looking clouds..then it happened...just after we set off from Johns the 'liquid wet stuff' began assaulting my car for no good reason....and it just kept coming and coming and coming !!
Tell you what though...those wiper arm things are a bleedin nuisance aren't they...kept getting in the way of my vision......

Had to stay strong through this downpour as we were on route to meet up with Jeff (oldfords) at South Mimms Services. Was really good to meet Jeff and his mate. Love your Capri Jeff. Looks stunning fella and you are a really nice chap too. A pleasure to meet you both. Dam I do like your White Capri. It looks so cool. Mate I cant believe I did not manage to get a photo of it as I did not take many today for a change as I was talking to a lot of people. Hopefully someone else will have captured it and will add it to my photos.

So anyway the rain eased off when we parked up at South Mimms for a chat with Jeff and his mate, then upon setting off for The Ace yep you guessed it....it pissed down again

So before any of the others get a chance to mention my slight 'issue' en route in convoy I will get in first....I sort of got 'disconnected' from the three Capri convoy....with me in the middle !!!! I always approach the Ace from 'my side' of the North Circular road so as we were coming from the opposite direction and because some bleeding knob in a people carrier just would not overtake John who slowed down to entice them, AND because of the torrential downpour I missed what exit John took at a busy roundabout...yep...I bleeding missed it and ended up all by myself heading on up the A41 and not the A406  I actually lost two Capris...can you believe it....welcome to my mysterious world :banghead:

So eventually got to The Ace only to find a 'not too concerned looking' John enjoying a cup of tea inside The Ace Café

Was brilliant to meet up with Neil (sheff) , Mark ( brooky ) , Danny ( D366Y ) Paul ( Paul G ), Jeff (oldfords), and of course Kris ( 2litreScapri ) along with many others. Really enjoyed chatting to everyone. Mark, good luck with your 'heads' this week. Let us know how you and Neil get on mate :)

John you know its always a pleasure to meet up fella. Might be up for Battlesbridge next Sunday...fancy a convoy...

So enough of this....some pics. Did not take many today as spent a while drying off the capri then meeting and chatting to people which is what its all about really. Always great to catch up with friends and to meet new folk from here and elsewhere.

OK the pics....

suppose I best start with Danny's Laser as he did get there an hour before everyone else to get the best spot in the carpark...

see what I mean about the best spot...
Image20170805_124737 by nicholas bowler, on Flickr

a pic of Dannys Capri is not complete without those 7.5 4 spokes !!
Image20170805_125557 by nicholas bowler, on Flickr

John had just finished throwing a bucket of water over his 2.8i Special before setting off for The Ace and it looked stunning as ever !
Image20170805_145750 by nicholas bowler, on Flickr

Neils superb 2.8i. He has done some amazing work under the bonnet over the winter/spring. I am kicking myself I did not take a pic when he had the bonnet open. Its looking so tidy in the engine bay now. Splendid work Neil...keep it up fella. You must open your bonnet more often

Kris' amazing 2.0S Love the colour and his wheels. Superb !

Hope you enjoyed the pics. Just read over on facebook that 33 Capri's was the official number so considering the weather this was brilliant to see...

So after all that rain, disconnection from the convoy and then brilliant sunshine I finally made it home, without getting lost John ( ! ) and the Laser did not look too bad at all...must drive in rain more often.... :o :o

just before putting it back in garage...
Image20170805_160541 by nicholas bowler, on Flickr

Will pop down tomorrow to give it a 'light'clean when the wife pops off to work..then bring it out for a drive...weather permitting

Must go now my head is burning up...yep I really did get sunburnt in the end...time for some of this...

All the best

Hi Nick,
Fantastic photos as always, thanks for sharing them.
All the forum cars look as superb as ever, very very tasty indeed!
It's a pity about the weather, but it sounds as though you had a really good day despite it.

I'm pleased to hear that you found your way to the Ace in the end.......it's lucky that bus drivers don't have to take "The Knowledge"!

All the best,
Andrew.

Had a great day also and nice to have a passenger today as Mark's car's waiting for the heads to get new guides fitted. So not to disappoint him I picked him up on route then we met up with Kris and Calvin plus 2 other black 2.8's and convoyed in around south London :D

Here's some additional photo's of the day.

Jeffs car... Sorry I didn't meet you Jeff but at least I got a photo of your car :D

Nick half way through drying his car the first time

Danny's car with those sexy wheels!

Kris and Calvin's cars need a mention as they organise this great event every year.

Starting with Kris

Calvin's car who had a squeeking brake issue today which was so loud I thought it was on my car :?
Image

My car bleeding coolant... Which is now fixed thanks to Mark and a spare rad cap he gave me.

And just to prove my car also got wet today in the light shower

What a great day out, will have to make the ACE one time as it looks a great meet (won't be following Nick though ..) :D
Looks a good atmosphere, all great cars in attendance , that supercharger looks higher than the roof on that drag Capri, how does he see where he's going :?:
Plenty of clean engine bays, I've got lots of work to do looking at these.
Thanks both for posting these pics, hope to see you at QS next month.

Some great pictures there and mine should have been there , yes almost a dead ringer that laser for nicks car but I did spot some dirt under the hood not like Nicks :-)

I will do my best to be there next year . Also some very nice well loved cars . I always say the car not 100% because there's a little job always needs doing , and a good reason why I have to nip out to look at the car everyday . Going on holiday this week so will have to get a quick drive in before we go just to use some of that petrol .

Bus driver getting lost.....I 'ate you Butleeeeeer

Getting caught in the rain isn't as bad as you think, a quick dry off there and detail spray when you get home.... Had that 3 times this year

And this is 20k something 1 previous owner 2.8 that was still running the original NCT tyres.
The chap let us look under the bonnet which was very interesting to see, as it was all as it left the factory. And it cleared up the mystery for me what that spare linkage is on the throttle mechanism....Seems it is required for the kick down as this was an automatic 2.8.

Hi Neil,
More photos, what a treat! Thanks for uploading them.
I must say that your car just keeps looking better and better all the time, a credit to all your hard work and dedication.
I love the other black 2.8 too, that's a stunner, although I prefer a manual 'box.
Nick's headlights look very good too. Wasn't John giving any demonstrations of his new set up?

Andrew.

A unique view of The Ace from above....Calvin flew a drone up to take this pic...that's me in the top left corner beside the Orange Capri

John is the fifth Capri to my right as you look at the picture with Jeff to the left of him (white Capri) and Neil is the third black Capri to the right along the bottom. Next to him on the right is Calvin then Kris then the 'twin' of mine to his right. This drone picture was taken towards the end of the day when some Capris had already left...including Danny who was in the space you can see five Capris in front of the main building.

Just thought I would give the picture a bit more meaning for the forum :)

Great birds eye shot you have uploaded Nick, perhaps you can get Calvin to fly the drone a little higher so you can see the route for next time so you don't get lost, I still think you arrived later than John as you naturally stopped at all the bus stops on the way by habit.

Was a good day and great to meet up again with the guys from the forum, so thanks to Neil for letting me tag along in his car, weird actually being a passenger in a capri but left me desperately wanting to get mine running so hopefully all goes to plan on Thursday when we fit the refurbished heads back on mine, intention then is to travel to Bristol on Sunday to meet Andrew for Queens Square with Neil.

Love that aerial shot!

Also chuffed to be top of the pile! great to see a decent turnout considering the downpour, and can't thank Neil enough for the brakes he has very kindly donated, will definitely help if all my proposed upgrades go to plan! Think that we have said it many times but the generosity of this forum is what makes me love it so much!

Great to see everyone and looking forward to QS in September!

Cheers
Danny

I like to think of it more of a 'diversion' Mark just like when i am at work ! I still blame that bleedin 'people carrier' that was intent on gate crashing our convoy even when John slowed down to entice the knob to overtake him, coupled with the torrential rain which obviously caused me to have some sort of meltdown. Oh and John confused me with the direction we approached The Ace....hmmmm...wonder if i can think of any more excuses....... :)
brooky wrote:I still think you arrived later than John as you naturally stopped at all the bus stops on the way by habit.
I was wondering who those strange people were in the back of the Capri....
D366Y wrote:Also chuffed to be top of the pile!
I will pm you my paypal details Danny

Seriously though to have a forum Capri in prime spot underneath the Ace Cafe sign was always gonna be a 'top of the pile' picture Danny. Well done sir :)

Yep when I seen Calvin get the drone out I was thinking he was getting bored until I seen this brilliant picture !

Thanks Andrew. Always enjoy sharing photos mate especially where forum capris are involved :)

Johns Special always puts a big :D on my face. Parked outside and used no matter what the weather and he throws a bucket of water over it the morning of a show and it looks absolutley stunning !

Always great to see Dannys Laser and 'those' wheels and 'that' exhaust !!

As said Neils engine bay is really looking great now. Hes done some superb work on it recently. Ask him nicely and he might show it to you at QS next Sunday

Was really nice to see Paul again too and hearing of his plans for all three of his Capris ! Hes a very knowledgeable chap indeed.

And I met Jeff for the first time with his stunning 3.0 with 'angel' headlght conversion which looks amazing. Hes a top bloke too.

The best thing about these meets is meeting up with forum members and having good chats and laughs :)

A great day Andrew. We wil have to persuade you to drive up for it next year. You would love it !

All the best mate

Nick

Calvin's aerial photo is fantastic!
I can see potential for using the drone to fly around shows taking photos of the cars. It would save having to walk!

Andrew.
