Classics in Cardiff 2017

Post by Andrew 2.8i »

Hi,
Last weekend I made the trip to the "Classics in Cardiff" show held, surprisingly enough, in Cardiff. :)
The weather was superb and the turnout of cars wasn't bad. Here's a selection of some of my favourites.

There weren't as many Capris as there was last year...

Hi Andrew, was great to catch up with you at this show, lots of well presented cars on display & owners willing to chat about their pride & joys. Plenty of diverse stuff on show & weather was brilliant, managed to burn (again) :D . Glad you took these excellent pictures as I still haven't sorted out my phone. Enjoyed the day, will be back next year, maybe in the Capri.

All the best,
Rob

(Edit) That orange mk1 escort (its colour name is actually Sebring red, looks orange to me ..) was that one I was on about in the singleton park show, the father & son 10 year resto, a superb job that they did on their own.

Hi Rob,
Yes, it's always good to catch up with a fellow Capri man and car nut!
That Escort mk1 was stunning, the chaps did a fantastic job there. It must be one of the less common colours for a Mexico, and it looked great.
I caught the sun again too. Ouch!

Hi Andrew,
Again, many great cars :D I recognise a few from the XROC.

That Mk3 Escort :helpinghand:

My dad had a 1975 Humber Sceptre, nice cars and in some ways a luxury version of the Hunter.

Your car looking spotless as ever :)

Nice to see a car event on Tarmac for a change :)

Cheers Andy!
The mark 3 Escort is a true showroom survivor, it's only done 50 odd thousand miles.
It does make a nice change to have an event on Tarmac. This show is held in the car park of the Cardiff City stadium.
One benefit is that there are proper toilets, not just a few manky portaloos......

I like to see these everyday classics at car shows, even more so than expensive exhibits like E-Types etc.

Hi, in case anyone may be interested, the blue 2.0GL in Andrews brilliant pictures above is for sale, second picture (Y Reg). I saw it last week at the Big Welsh car show at Chepstow racecourse. The owner wasn't about so I couldn't ask price or history but I'm sure when I spoke to him last year, it has very low miles & I (and I'm sure Andrew) will confirm it's an excellent example. I know this should be in cars for sale, but I don't have pictures, plus it's not mine :D .
So, if anyone is interested, you can contact the seller on :
01269822697 or 07855988040.

Hi Rob,
We've both seen this car a few times and I think that we agree that it appears to be in excellent original condition. Do you know how much the seller is asking for it?
If anyone is interested in the car, the mileage was under 48,000 at the last MOT, in July.

That answers that then :D , cheers Andy.
Didn't see the owner to ask a price last week, but had a look around it, if anyone's interested in a GL they could do a whole lot worse than this one. Interior looks like new, seems to have been looked after all it's life.

Out of curiosity I've been keeping my eye on 2.l GL cars, they never seem to achieve much... I think the lack of rear wing and it's a relatively base model must put some people off compared to getting a laser with rear wing and 6pod dash...

But who knows!

:agree: Although I wouldn't dress up as a police man like the 'would be cops' at the Chepstow show with their replica american police cars. What's that all about, like my youngest said, did they used to play dress up as kids & never grew out of it
andyd wrote:  Think it would cost you alot more than this one at £9500 though :(
Saw an ex police Capri for sale around a year before I bought mine, as I remember, it sold for around £3,500 ish at the time. Would have been a good investment, another boat missed .. :)

Sold for £7800, which is probably a reflection of the terrific condition as I can't recall a GL selling for that much before.
