CCI Nationals 2017

Post by Andrew 2.8i »

Good Morning,
I hope that everyone is well. As you are all aware, the CCI Nationals took place on Sunday 7th May. It was a superb day in all aspects: the weather, the people and, of course, the cars. Here are some photos of some interesting cars, in no particular order.

Overview of the show. As you can see, wonderful weather and a great turnout of cars. I didn't count them (even I'm not that sad!) there must have been close to 100 in total.

ImageCapri Club International 2017 by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

I'll start with this splendid 3000GT.

ImageFord Capri 3000 GT JLK812K by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

This 2.0GL was lurking in the visitors car park.

ImageFord Capri 2.0 GL KAB357X by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

This modified mark 2 with an extremely well fitted Kat kit was also in the visitors area.

ImageFord Capri 3000 Ghia SUH898M by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

Proving that the visitors area was almost as interesting as the show field, here's a superb 2.8.

ImageFord Capri 2.8 Injection A44XAB by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

This one, owned by Phil, is a regular visitor to Queen Square, along with lots of other shows.

ImageFord Capri 2.8 Injection Special B204YUH by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

Phil's son Mark has recently bought this 2.0S.

ImageFord Capri 2.0 S DDF 861Y by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

Plenty of great Lasers at this show, such as this one.

ImageFord Capri 2.0 Laser C557WLN by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

The only Tickford at the show. It looks black in the photo, but the paint is actually brown, and it changes shade as you look at it from different angles. Wonderful car.

ImageFord Capri Tickford B525BWN by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

People were still arriving late into the show, like this 2.8.

ImageFord Capri 2.8 Injection YSA746Y by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

Beautiful 3.0 Ghia in a really nice colour (crystal green?)

ImageFord Capri 3.0 Ghia VLC447X by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

Modified Laser.

ImageFord Capri Laser B619HJB by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

One of several mark 2's at the show. This one is a 2000 Ghia.

ImageFord Capri 2000 Ghia HHB713N by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

Parked next to it was this 3000 Ghia.

ImageFord Capri 3000 Ghia SFL503R by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

Talking of 3.0 Ghias, as we were....Cobalt blue looked absolutely stunning in the sunshine.

ImageFord Capri 3000 Ghia UTW531W by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

Another mark 2, a 3.0S.

ImageFord Capri 3000 S MEJ737R by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

Gorgeous crystal blue over strato silver Special.

ImageFord Capri L MHU257Y by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

Yet another gorgeous 2.8.

ImageFord Capri 2.8 Injection A470BNU by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

Another cobalt blue stunner, a 2.0S.

ImageFord Capri 2.0 S AVV77X by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

This is mike37's beautiful injection.

ImageFord Capri 2.8 Injection TDP935Y by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

Laser's Lovely Laser.

ImageFord Capri 1.6 Laserr D155DJU by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

An early 2.8, registered in July '81. Yet another stunner in crystal green.

ImageFord Capri 2.8 Injection NFP13W by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

Dunno what engine that is, but it's not standard......

ImageFord Capri 3000 S SYX63S by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

Another Laser worthy of a mention.

ImageFord Capri 1.6 Laser C123HHS by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

Awesome.

ImageFord Capri 3.0 S LPC570W by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

Still more fantastic Injections...

ImageFord Capri 2.8 Injection Special B770DGF by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

It was hardly worth cleaning the cars as there was a lot of dust around due to the dry spell, as witnessed on this lovely 280.

ImageFord Capri 280 E280BFE by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

This was absolutely gorgeous. Dan helpfully informed me that this is regency red, which seems to be very rarely seen on a Capri. That's a shame because it's an amazing colour.

ImageFord Capri 2.8 Injection Special D885PGF by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

A personalised mark 2 3.0 Ghia.

ImageFord Capri 3000 Ghia VAD982S by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

A very original looking 1.6 GL.

ImageFord Capri 1600 GL ALF653Y by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

A variation on the usual stripes.

Stunning (because of the high standard of cars, I've run out of superlatives!) 1600GT.

ImageFord Capri 1600 GT UBX28L by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

Cardinal red 2.0S.

ImageFord Capri 2.0 S A209PWS by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

Forum member Nick Matteri's car.

Yet another car out in the visitor parking area.

ImageFord Capri 2.8 Injection Special D100RBU by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

As was this 2.0 GL.

ImageFord Capri 2.0 GL BHL225T by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

One of the many very well presented mark 1s, a 3000E.

ImageFord Capri 3000 E FEG221K by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

The mark 2's didn't let the side down either...

ImageFord Capri 1600 GL WEA 83S by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

A bodykitted 2.8.

ImageFord Capri 2.8 Injection Special B781UOD by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

An interesting one, a 1985 Special in lacquer red that's been retro fitted with pepperpots and shark grey interior.

ImageFord Capri 2.8 Injection B754RKV by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

For me, this was the best Injection at the show. Absolutely immaculate in all respects.

ImageFord Capri 2.8 Injection Special C146FHK by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

Here's mine, I'm not very happy with this photo, but it's the only one I've got. Sadly, I missed the results of the judging, I must have been talking to Martin at the time they took place. I didn't win a gold award this year............

ImageFord Capri 2.8 Injection A366NGS by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

.......However, it was a pleasant surprise, well more of a shock really, to find this had been posted through my open sunroof. I'm over the moon with it, so thanks are due to the chaps at the club.

Image2nd place concours mark 3 medal by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

In case the inscription isn't clear, incredibly, I won 2nd place in the concours mark 3 competition! :D Although I didn't turn up to the show expecting an award, it is wonderful, and a great honour, to receive a little recognition for the hours of work put into the car.

All in all, it was a brilliant day out.

All the best,
Andrew.

Hi Andrew,
Some great Capri's there, made all the better with some sunshine :D I can't believe the amount of Capri's in the public carpark :?

Well done with your award, definitely worthy with all the work you put into your car. Looking forward to seeing it at QS later this year :)

Thanks for taking the time to take and upload pictures :D

Great pictures Andrew and congratulations on the well deserved award :applaud:

Lots of photo's on Capri World of the event and some mixed reviews.

The best I could find of your car I'm afraid Andrew.

Hi Andy,
Yes, there were a few. I'm not sure whether they parked there because the showfield was almost full, or whether they decided to not exhibit their cars. There were loads more that I couldn't take photos of, as they came and went before I wandered over to them.
andyd wrote:Well done with your award, definitely worthy with all the work you put into your car.
Thanks Andy. Totally unexpected, and I dare say perhaps a controversial decision as there were plenty of cars there that were a much higher standard than mine.

Ditto the XR4x4.

No problem at all. Luckily I'm off work this week so I've got plenty of spare time.

From what I'm hearing on Facebook it was used as the overflow area, as they didn't allow enough room in the main show area. One of the many complaints about the show :(

Personally I wouldn't be happy about parking my Capri on that long grass, but I guess it was fairly dry.

I suppose that's the trouble if you don't take all bookings in advance, you may not have enough room...
Who knows how many are going to turn up on the day? I sometimes just turn up and pay on the day and hope there is space.

The show was much busier than it has been on the previous occasions that I've been there, maybe CCI had underestimated the anticipated attendance.

Some late arrivals parked in the main showfield though, so I guess that the option was there.

Wow ! Nice one Andrew thats brilliant fella and extremely well deserved :applaud:

To get an award in the Concours class is about as good as it gets and as I have been lucky enough to see your stunning 2.8i in the flesh its no surprise....and about time ! :D

Great Capri's there mate. Some of the best in the country....or World in the case of that 280 !! Great to see Dan finally drove himself there....must have been a brilliant day for him. Always great to see his Laser. What a selection of Capri's to drool over !

Yep as Neil said some mixed reviews over on Capri World. By the sound of it the number of Capri's turning up was not expected/planned for so they were being ushered into the visiters field with long grass. One poor chap though was buying a gearbox I think it was for £375 plus delivery but he decided and agreed to collect it from the show so when he turned up to pay the £375 and take it away Mr John Hill told him it was now £475 !! Not good.....

Anyway glad you had a great day Andrew made all the better with your well deserved concours award. You done the forum proud old chap ! :)

All the best and thanks for posting the pics.

It was a fantastic turnout of cars, and possibly the biggest gathering since the 45th anniversary at Brooklands?
I'm still getting over the very high standard of cars on display, and I apologize to the owners if I did actually drool over their cars!

Thanks, it's always a pleasure to post photos for people to enjoy. Yes, Worcestershire was the place to be yesterday....everyone had a great day except, apparently, the members of Capri World on FB....

At first, I honestly thought Andrew was a motoring journalist with that professional camera taking pictures for an article. It was only when he guessed my username and then told me who it was that I got stopped in my tracks!
Great photos as I myself did not take any so its good to see the cars that made it to the show.

Hi Andrew

Cracking pictures of some great Capri's and a more than deserved award to top off what sounded like a great day....

Ive read good and poor reports about the event but great weather and a bunch of like minded people will do for me. The only negative for me would be parking in the tall grass with the 2.8 but the 2.0 goes everywhere lol

Cheers, Des

:agree:
I had a great day looking at fantastic cars. I also met up with Caprifan Rob, Big Mike, Martin (Caprigear), mellow-yellow, dan the capri fan, A17TLF from the forum and countless other Capri enthusiasts and that made the day for me.

Perhaps next year they'll get the mower out if they hear in advance that you'll be going!
