Yes, sadly this weekend has been a complete wash-out. I won't be going to Singleton Park now. As you said, it's been dry for weeks with hardly any rain, then when it comes to a show weekend the heavens open. Typical!
Went to Singleton today with my boys, it was a much smaller show than previous years, partly due to the weather but also the organisers have trimmed the show right down due to some 'modern car clubs' antics last year apparently. Star of the show was a stunning Sebring red mk1 escort Mexico replica which had its first outing after a 10 year father & son resto, superb. If I can make August / September I'd definitely be up for a QS meet.

Hi Rob,
It sounds like you had a great day out. I went two years ago and it was a really good mix of modern and classic cars. Were there mostly classics there this year then? Of course, if you've got any photos, we'd love to see the Escort (and other cars) for ourselves!

Cheers,
Andrew.

Sadly, that seems to be getting a bit of a problem with a lot of shows. It says on the Singleton website from lest year that they "received a number of complaints about the younger element with the modified cars" and also that the show "could depend on the Council’s actions next year. It is beginning to feel as if they don’t really want any shows or events in Singleton Park anymore, as they make it more difficult and expensive to put the show together". Obviously they have got around the problems for this year, but would future shows have to be relocated elsewhere?

Yes, it was only classics on show. Sadly, I couldn't take a single picture as my phones memory is full :banghead: , As for the Escort, Martin (the father) said he & his son will be doing the rounds this year, they'll be at Pure Ford in Castle Combe in 2 weeks. It's got a great background story, he bought it as his son who has Aspergers was struggling with his schoolwork, but doing the car together has focussed him enough to gain a degree in car mechanics. Don't think they could have found a worse rotted base car to start with, which makes what they've achieved all the more remarkable.

There were probably around 150 cars, which is a far cry from previous years. The whole event was far more geared to families this year, rides, it's a knockout etc to the extent the cars were just a side show. If it's going to go that way then the car show will end, which is a real shame as it's always been a great show in the past.

The modern stuff seems to be taking over most of the best meets and shows. It's all very good if you like that kind of thing, and I respect the owners for taking great pride in their cars and preparing them really well, but I can see a Fiesta or Focus ST in the supermarket car park any time I like....

:agree:
Is there any need to rev the nuts off them or have the stereo on full blast...... Not everyone wants to hear it :swear:
Exact reason I won't go to Ford Fair and alike.

A fairly local show has pre 1984 vehicles only and no loud music..... Pre 1995 I think would suit me :)

Quote from Beaulieu Home Page;
In an all-time high 1,500 Fords and 2,949 visitors turned out for the biggest Simply Ford yet at Beaulieu, which added an extra 150 cars and 491 visitors to last year’s figures.

Hi Andy,
As we have learned from Mk1 Kieron's videos, pre '84 cars aren't always driven sensibly......
Unfortunately, as long as there is a crowd at a car event, there will always be somebody who will show off. The one possible exception to the rule is the London to Brighton veteran car run! :lol:

I agree. Going to battlesbridge next week and have to admit, hate all the poxy focuses that turn up. And the new imported F100 trucks that people 'think' are classics.
