Quex Classic Motor & Military show

Post by Peter-S »

This was a smallish event, near Margate, held over the weekend. I went Saturday when the weather was a little indifferent. There was a reasonable showing but no Capris :(

There were a few old Fords present including an early Anglia

a couple of Escorts (clever as the first one is, its not for me)

Cortinas in triplicate

A nice Consul

a daily drive Granny

and of course a Mustang

and a few other recognisable classics

and a couple of less common rides. This is a Merc

a Lanchester

a Chevvy

and a Pontiac Bonneville, circa 1960. It was huge!

and as there was a military element, here's a couple of trucks too

Some great cars there Peter. Good to see a mk3 cortina in estate guise, must be rare now. Mk1's always look good too, especially in lotus colours. That Pontiac bonneville looks as difficult to park as most of the military machinery :)
Looked a good show, cheers for posting.

HI Peter,
That looks like a great local show, and the weather there didn't look too bad at all.
Didn't you take one of your Capris to exhibit?

Andrew.

Peter,
Out of curiosity, did you ask the owner of the Mercedes 500K replica what make it was?

Not a turn up and show event Andrew. I think it was local car clubs in the 'arena' everyone else was in the car park.

Sorry, no info on the Merc

I hadn't even realised it was a replica until I went back and looked after you mentioned.

Hi,
Two reasons how I knew it was a replica.
1) I'm a nerd and noticed the non-Mercedes grille mascot straight away.
2) I would be amazed to ever see a 500k at a local car show. They must be worth £1M +.

It's still a stunning car though, if you like cars from that era.

Excellent pictures Peter. Nice one. Looked a great show. That Mk1 Escort looks lovely. I have always really liked Scimitars too Peter. My ex boss had one. The interior of these is gorgeous. You really know you are in a classic sitting in one of these. Anyway enjoyed the pics mate.

All the best

Nick

Hi,
Thanks for the additional info. I've found out from a kit car and replica website that the chassis is a 1935 Buick and the engine is a 6.7 litre Chevrolet V8. It's not a kit car as I first thought, but a one-off replica.

This car appears to do a lot of shows in the Kent area.

Hi Peter,

Some nice motors there fella. I like the 3rd Pic, the standard looking Silver MKI Escort, then the MKIII Blue Cortina Estate. I think the Cortina for me, as I remember my Dad having one and him telling me about the drivers door falling off on the M62, on the 1st drive home from work!!!   He never liked it after that!!!

Cheers for sharing!!!! All the best Peter,

John...
