Simply Ford 2016

Post by Andrew 2.8i »

Hi All,
As has been mentioned in previous threads, a fantastic day was had by all. It's always a pleasure meeting new folks from the forum and putting names to faces. Well, what a show! All sorts of Fords across all the ages made this a great day out. Unfortunately there were too many fantastic cars to be able to post photos of them all, but here are some of my highlights. I hope you enjoy looking through them.

These are the best of the Capris to begin with (this is the Capri forum after all!).

I'll start with Bobby's 2.0 Laser, as I don't believe that I've seen a photo of this on the forum before. I didn't get a chance to ask Bobby about it, as he was just leaving as I arrived to look at it.

Image

Next is Nick's stunning 2.0 Laser. Enough has been said about this car, I don't need to add any more.

Image

John's and Neil's 2.8 Injections. More stunning forum cars!

Image

Image

I really liked this 2.0S in signal yellow.

Image

This 280 is a 30,000 odd thousand mile one owner from new car. Although it's fair to say that this car divided opinion like few others. One of only a handful with an auto gearbox.

Image

Opinions were unanimous on this 3.0 Ghia. Absolutely beautiful in every respect.

Image

There weren't that many Mk2 Capris there, but I'm pleased that this 3.0S was.

Image

Luke's 2 Litre that had been restored by Steve was also there. It's the first time I've seen this in person and I really like it.

Image

This Facelift GXL was gorgeous.

Image

As was this 1600GT.

Image

And this 3000GT pre-facelift.

Image

Some of the smaller engine Capris tend to get overlooked, but this 1300 was a beauty.

Image

Another stunning Laser.

Image

This 2.0GL caught my eye.

Image

Even if the slogan in the window is a bit close to the truth for some.....

Image

The best condition XR2 at the show. It just so happens it was on Andy's XR stand.

Image

This beautiful XR4i was also on the same stand. I didn't see a single XR4x4 at the show though, which was a little disappointing.

Image

Talking of Sierras, there were some beautiful RS500s there. These were my two favourites.

Image

Image

Some of the truly stunning Mexicos and RS2000s that were at the show.

Image

Image

Image

Image

A Granada Mk1 Perana V8. Awesome.....

Image

Also for the South African market is the Cortina XR6.

Image

Plenty of Escort RS Turbo S1 to be seen.

Image

Wouldn't it be good to be able to buy these for the Capri?

Image

A pair of Lotus Cortinas. Personally, I prefer the look of the MK2 over the Mk1.

Image

Image

This Escort Mk1 van was finished to a high standard. The number plate gives the game away about what was lurking under the bonnet....

Image

This Fiesta looked like nothing spectacular. Until you saw the RWD and rear engine conversion, on top of that all of the engine and suspension parts were spotlessly clean.

Image

Image

This RS1600i had been owned by the same chap for 19 years. Boy, has he looked after it well, as it was immaculate and looked totally original.

Image

I searched in vain for a Mk3 XR3 or XR3i, and this Cabriolet was the best I could come up with.

Image

This Transit looked like it had just been driven from the showroom.

Image

Another great Transit.

Image

I'm not sure what's going on with this KA.

Image

A couple of custom jobs.

Image

Image

Ford Cortina 2000E Mk3.

Image

Loved this Zephyr MkIV.

Image

A tasty Mk1 fiesta.

Image

Green seems to suit the Escort Mk2 really well, as these cars prove.

Image

Image

Mustang Mach 1.

Image

Another Mustang. These look best with the fastback, in my opinion.

Image

The latest Ford Mustang looks the biz.

Image

There were surprisingly few non-Mustang American Fords there. I like this Galaxie 500 though.

Image

Ford Thames 300E van.

Image

You don't seem to see many vans with custom paint jobs like this any more.

Image

That's enough from me, I hope you enjoyed looking through these photos.

Andrew.

Hi Andrew,

Cheers for posting these Pic's. Great memories of a Great Day. There were too many there to list as you say, but you really have captured the feel of the show. Great catching up again and hope to see you next Week End up at the Capri Club...

OK!!! If I have to choose a Favorite, I'm going to surprise you all and go with the Escort Van at the end. As Andrew says, you just don't get Art Work on Vans anymore... But for some weird reason, all I thought of when I saw this, was Mad Max, the Original Film!!! Nothing like Max's van, not even the same colour, but it did remind me of this!!! Great Pic's again Andrew, all the very best,

John...

Certainly did enjoy the pictures Andrew :D thanks for posting these, was hoping to see some after the build up for the show & you and Nick didn't disappoint. Looks like a great attendance, the weather makes a massive difference ( the Swansea show today was half what it was last year due to this :( ). Will have to make simply ford another time as it looked well worth the trip.
Cheers for posting, all the best,

Hi Andrew,
Great pics which summed up the quality of the cars that attended.

:sorry: We should have had a XR4X4 but it broke down at 10pm Saturday evening
Hence Andy brought the Sierra Ghia in it's place that was intended as a donor car for the 4X4. But with all the attention it got yesterday, I think he has decided to keep it in one piece and improve it slowly as it was a one lady owner car.

Andy's (Yes Another :o ) XR4i always gets a crowd too.

As I said earlier we as a club were disapointed with the lack of XR's on the stand compared with the last 2 years, which saw around 10 and 15.....
Fingers crossed it will improve next year, as I didn't see many others there.

Hi Andrew,

What brilliant pictures. Thanks for taking the time to post them fella. I am really glad you did because as said I did not take pics this year so yours have really highlighted the superb turnout of Fords. Nice one mate :applaud:

We watched as the owner of that Blue custom car left mate and boy does it look like an uncomfortable driving position to sit in but what a sound it made and that was only crawling along....

Some simply stunning Capri's you have captured here Andrew. The XROC and forum Capri's alongside me not forgetting Andys lovely motor were all fantastic. What an honour to park up beside them :D

Lukes looked absolutely stunning, as did that 1300 too...what a cracker !

That Lacquer Red Laser D131 EEL was parked up alongside the XROC and forum Capri's last year as I do believe was at The Ace Café Capri meet last year. Lovely Laser. Loads of fantastic Fords to drool over its difficult to pick out "favourites" as I would take most of them home with me if I could

Thanks again for taking the time to post these Andrew. Some wonderful memories of a Simply Super day at Simply Ford...

All the best

Nick

Hi John,
Thanks. It was a great day, with many fantastic cars of all descriptions. Perhaps those that couldn't come this year might decide to come along for next year.

I'm definitely hoping to get to the National next weekend. The show season has well and truly started now!

Hi Rob,
I'm pleased you enjoyed the photos. I didn't even know that the Swansea show was on. Was that the Singleton Park one? When I drove past Swansea on the way home yesterday, it was absolutely pouring down. I was sad not to have taken my Capri to the Simply Ford meet, but I was certainly pleased not to be driving it home in that weather! :D

Hi Andy,
Thanks. I enjoy posting the photos on here, although it can be a bit of a pain at times....
I thought your stand was as good as any of the others at Simply Ford, there were a good variety of cars there. You can't really blame the lads if they couldn't commit on the day, after all, it would have been a long day for them. No doubt there would have been plenty more going if the show was just that little bit closer to home. Mind you, it's good the Laser Forum boys were there to save the day...well, some of them anyway!
Sorry to hear about the XR4x4's woes, but I hope I might get to see it at a show in the future.

Hi Nick, Yes, it was a great day that I will remember for some time. Well, until the simply super day at Simply Ford next year probably!
I agree, if I could have taken my favourites home with me, I would need a much bigger garage!

Hi Des,
Thanks very much! Better not tell them that there were plenty more fantastic cars there, or they'll be even more green with envy! It was one of the best car shows I've been to for quite a while.

All the best chaps, and thanks again for the positive comments.

Andrew.

Yes Andrew, singleton park show, we were looking for a show & found this was on, it was a good day but attendance was down due to weather, unlike simply ford, which looked great. Obviously went to the wrong one ;)

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for posting the photo's, it will act as a good reminder of what a great show it was. I didn't take the camera this year and soon realized that it was a big mistake.
Like you and Andy I was a bit surprised with the lack of XR's at the show. Me and my mate found what we thought was an early example Mk3 XR3 with the A framed headrests, it had been camouflaged by using a RS Turbo body kit and decals. Bit of a shame, as I would think an early XR3 is rarer than a RS turbo.

Personal favorite was the red Capri Mk1 1600GT. Had a long chat with the owner of this car he had bought it out of a barn and had the pictures to show it alongside the sheep as it had been stored for several years by the original owner.
The white bubble arched Mk1 Escort RS2000 won The Peoples choice award second year running. A very nice car but lacked the level of originality of the red Capri IMO.

Great to see you and the other Forum members there. Catch up with you soon at one of the Bristol meets :D .

Neil
:agree: Didn't see an Mk3 XR3 or 3i....But there are plenty still around.
We should have had a MK1 XR2 on ours as well, but a last minute hiccup(?) it didn't happen.

The Blue XR2 on our stand came from South London as it is within the Southern Branch, but no one else made it which I thought was poor as it is one of there local shows. I know work commitments, car problems and other shows etc cause difficulty, but compared to last year the XR turnout was :turd: especially as I gave 4 months notice for it.
Perhaps next year we can be the 'Capri Laser Page Forum (with other stuff)' Try getting all that in your windscreen :xd:

It was a great day though, as the Capri's made it and got plenty of attention :applaud:

Yeah sorry Des.... I'm a bit like a kid in a sweet shop when it comes to Simply Ford... I was all over the place :D
I'm sure our paths will cross at some point in the future. Really looking forward to seeing the progress you make with your Capri. Perhaps you could pop along to the Ace Cafe meet on 6th August. Its a good show and last year a chap drove down from Sheffield in this.

Hi Neil,
I'm glad you enjoyed looking through the photos. Feel free to steal them and claim them as your own!
I didn't hear an announcement about the people's choice, I guess that you must have been around the museum area when the announcement was made over the tannoy. I can't say I'm surprised, the Mk1 Escorts are always a favourite with the public, more so than a Capri, I think. A pity because that red Capri really was a beauty.

All the best,
Andrew.

Hi,

While looking through some You Tube videos of Simply Ford stuff I am 99% sure that I spotted Luke's superb Capri that Steve from this forum restored. It looks stunning as it passes the chap recording.

Here is the photo that Andrew took at the show....
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1504/261 ... 872d_k.jpg

Here it is again (am 99% it is) driving past the chap recording. It is at 0.21secs into the video. Its brief but you can see the quality of it.....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCf0cMUb5NM

Hope you don't mind me sharing this Luke. Thought you would like to see it yourself too. Your Capri is truly wonderful mate.

All the best

Great day on Sunday, shame I couldn't be in my Capri, but I came along in my mate Andrew's 2.8 (black with whale tail). First time experience & I loved it!. Great seeing Neil, John/Nick - didn't see you all day! Went over to the stand, no one I knew there but was so busy walking around I didn't hang about.

The KA started life as a normal one, then had a Zetec turbo engine running 276bhp, now it's been swapped out to Mitsi Evo running gear & engine. It's been built to compete in Time Attack. it's owned by an RSFFE member.

I'll post my pics up in the next few days, and I'll post the pics up of my Capri still undergoing work. Really hoping it'll be back on the road in June!

Hi Kris,
Thanks for clearing up the mystery and providing the extra information about the KA. When I was there looking at it, it drew quite a crowd.
