Hi,
Fantastic photos, thanks for sharing them.
There are some great eighties styling details there like the bodykits, headlight grilles and covers and rear window louvres. A blast from the past.
An obvious choice, but my favourite car has to be the Zakspeed. It's a credit to the owner as it is still in the same condition nowadays as it was then.
These days it's hard to believe how many cars used to attend the Capri National. The show field looks jam packed.
Please post some more photos of other years if you have them, we'd love to see them.

Andrew.

:agree:

That's brilliant Altaf, I was at this year's nationals and it's a far cry from those days by the looks of it!

That 280 must have been brand fine new then, complete with yellowed headlights (!) and curiously there appears to be no badges on the centre caps of the wheels either?!

Nice to see you posting here mate, any more old photos? ;)

I was a small child when they were taken as you can see lol.

I will try and dig some more out. I am glad you guys have enjoyed looking at them, Tbh, it was big mikes thread that made me want to put them up as my uncle had a yellow body kitted 1.6 mk3 at the time with a massive music install at the time.

Such a change from back in the day to the present. As far as I know one or two of those cars are still about. Just imaging buying panels or spares for your car at 1988 prices today!.

Great pics by the way.

It must have been strange back then, as you could have been showing a car which was only two years old. It would be like showing a two year old Ford Focus now. I can only assume that the Capri had it's legendary status even at that time.

Hi,

It's still taxed, so I would assume it's still being used, unless the plate has been transferred to another '72 Ford.

Looking closely at the photos, the car has facelift rear lights but it has pre-facelift front lights, but they don't seem to fit the bonnet properly. Did it have a facelift bonnet fitted, or is it just the camera angle?

Andrew.

You could be right, same angle, pre-facelift bonnet & lights fit a lot better :)
That Crayford is a good looking car but my favourite has to be the Oyster Gold x-pack, great to see these old pictures.

Hi there,

I bet that was a pleasant surprise!

Unfortunately, DVLA records are showing that DOH 79V has not been taxed since 1994 so unless it is hoarded in a garage somewhere, there is no evidence it's still alive. JCK 909S was due to be taxed in June 2013 but is not SORN. So, more recent activity; that could have been the end of its life, but as it is more recent somebody may know of its fate/whereabouts.

Good luck!

DOH 79V was in mint condition when I sold it in 1989. Two previous and 70k fsh so unless it's been smashed can't see it has deteriorated that much in five years.
JCK is still owned by by friend it is stripped ready for renovation.

I think all in all, Capris have had a much better survival rate than some of the other cars that were around at the same time. You just have to look at old vauxhalls and japanese motors.

A smash can't be ruled out but like you say, it's unlikely to have just deteriorated; 20 years without being taxed is a long time. One can hope.

hi some nice photos , I cant believe that theres a lot of these still left .
As for doh79v I think this one will be in a lock up somewhere as it was to good a car to scrap by looking at it , and it was last taxed in 1994, because if it was taxed after 1998 it would show sorn on the check because any cars taxed after 1998 had to be sorn by law . Dvla will not give you the name and address of the current owner because ive tried this on a capri I used to own the only way to find out if it as been scrapped is to do a autocheck on it, I did this on another capri I owned and it showed scrapped . Another way you can find out is to see if its insured is to go to the ask mid site and see if its insured . smk829y 2.8 zakspeed is sorn and still around I see this car every year when I go to the wonderland car show at ferry farm park hovringham , it always wins something . E187SOL is taxed till 1/9/15 . JTM15V is sorn .YCK674k is taxed till 1/6/2015. CJN615T 3.0 litre is taxed till 1/1/2016. JCK909S 3.0 litre last taxed 25/6 2013 . KVW198V 3.0 litre last taxed 9/7/1997 . pwh260s last taxed 1996 . fwk584t last taxed 29/8/ 2009 . pky638x last taxed1/3/1995. yoo396l taxed till 1/1/ 2016 . Some cars don't give me any information . I am trying to put some photos on here to show you what smk 829y looks like today from the hovringham show 2012 I went to with my gold 3.0 ghia capri reg number hvw193t .
