Tatton Classic Car Show 16-17 August
Just a few photos from Tatton. I was too busy enjoying a beer on our club stand to look at much else than Capris we brought and also paulda's mk 2 3.0S he posted about on cars wanted area. So here goes
Mk2 3.0 Ghia (a guest from another club that joined us on the Saturday) in lovely condition with a mk1 V8 in the background
I love signal orange on this 3.0
[/img]
A Tickford with an automatic gearbox - the only one of its kind in the world as it was the only one ever made - the same guy owns a white Tickford we had elsewhere on stand. The lovely early 2.8i next to it was on its first outing since being restored, and is a rare 4 speed
A lovely 1.6GL from our club
Paulda's Mk 2 which was stunning on near and far inspection
A Mk1 2000 GT
And the view of the 15 Capris or so we had on stand

Mike,
Fantastic photos, thanks for uploading them. There are certainly enough stunning Capris in your club to make my mouth water! I love the orange x pack, the Tickford, paulda's Mk2 S, the graphite 2.8, and the...........etc etc. I'd better stop there as I'm salivating over my keyboard!
It sounds like you had a fantastic day at the show, and I'll wager that your car attracted as much attention as all the others on the club stand.
All the best,
Andrew.

Yes, a few did, including one each day that thought they would try the door and look inside without asking. Locked for obvious reasons. It never ceases to surprise you when somebody cuts past concours cars to say they like yours though. I guess there's a Capri for everyone! My favourites were the early 2.8 (it was a 2 tone grey, graphite over a lighter grey) and Paulda's Mk2.

Hi Mike,
Cheshire capri club looks to be a good club to belong too, everyone I spoke to on the stand in Tatton back in May were really helpful. It's great to see so many good looking Capri's in one place, yours is looking impressive mate, a good selection of different models gives great variety to the club. Still a big fan of that signal orange 'S' , looks to have been a good day out, thanks for posting.
Cheers, Rob.

Hi Rob,
Thanks very much. Last bit of resto underway as of today.
They definitely are a good bunch. I spoke to them back in May too, and joined on the spot. Absolutely no side to anybody that I have met. There's a complete mix of cars - some on the verge of needing to be scrapped, some average, some better than average and right up to ones in carcoons that never come out (including an unregistered 280 with only delievery mileage), yet there's no snobbishness or one upmanship. All happy to share advice and enjoy a beer. I'd definitely recommend it.
How's your restoration coming along?
Mike

Hi Mike,
Bodywork Resto starts next month, we've done minor things like restoring the headlight rims & replacing the underwing mud guards etc & collecting various bits of trim along the way to make things quicker. Theres plenty to do but the deeper we've looked, the sounder the shell appears to be. It's been tough resisting pulling it all apart & getting stuck in as we've been putting lots of miles on it at moment checking it's all running right. Funnily enough that's been the best bit of owning it so far.. Haven't worked out its mpg as petrol goes in & smiles come out but we've emptied a full tank in the last 2 weeks 'checking' how well it goes on the weekends & the odd evening
My sons love it & get a kick out of being in it so it was worth the purchase just for that alone. When we've done more work I'll post some pics on the projects link, looking forward to starting the Resto proper.
Cheers, Rob.

Hi Mike,
Great pics, cheers for sharing them. Like Andrew and yourself, the Orange X-Pack, Wow, looks absolutely stunning. The Red Tickford, I've seen White & Black ones and now a Red one and here was me thinking they only come in White, Doh! For me though, the MKI GT, love these cars.
Well, as I say, cheers for sharing, all the best,
John...

Re: Tatton Classic Car Show 16-17 August
Great pics Mike, I took a lot too, I will post some here if that's ok, no point in starting another thread just the same, although I won't post any more of the Cheshire stand, just the other Capri's. My car was just opposite the Cheshire stand, I did wander over a few times to seek you out but kept getting distracted by something, or someone. I keep reading that Capri's are on the decline, but I'm not sure that I agree with that. Keep seeing more and more on the roads, and they were all over Tatton. It had to be the most common car there, not only in the several Capri clubs that were displaying, but scattered around in generalised and individual showings also. I know what you mean about people trying door handles, a woman tried mine, and I noticed her trying the Cheshire Capri stand also. Great show yet again.

Sounds like your experience has been exactly the same as my own. Drive it around to check/enjoy for a while, all the time collecting bits, whilst the minor work you do reveals how solid your car is. Good luck once you start in earnest, looking forward to seeing the picsFreelanderfan wrote:Hi Mike,

Re: Tatton Classic Car Show 16-17 August
Cheers John. I learned for the first time on Sunday that they also did an offish white colour that looked pretty much yellow in the flesh. Never knew that before. The GT is a sleeper, when the owner found the car I believe it was minus the engine so now it has some obscenely powerful Zetec in it.Taff40ish wrote:Hi Mike,

Re: Tatton Classic Car Show 16-17 August
Hi Paul,
Definitely, stick the pics up. I hope you got a picture of the silver and gold 3.0S cars parked next to each other Professionals style? My phone had just given up the ghost and I couldn't snap them.
Saw your car opposite, and was fairly certain it was yours based on your description of where you were in May. I did nip over once or twice to see if I could find you but you must have been strolling around somewhere. Next time!
Yes, great show and plenty of goodies in the jumble. Particularly light blue Ford badges.
They are not off Capris as far as I can tell, as they are thicker by a third or so compared to ones I have seen on Capris. However, the ones on my car are the same so either they were changed before I got it (the state of them makes me doubt it) or mine had the wrong badges. Either way, at £20 each compared to ebay prices I don't give a damn!

I usually would Paul but it's the wife's birthday on Sunday and she does not share my love of Capris or cars more generally! Not certain how she would take a surprise trip to a car show. If she goes through a personality change, I'll be there!

Hi pbar,
Great photos mate. Some cracking looking motors there. Love the Red MKI & the RS next to it, too many really to choose from, thanks for posting them.
As to the Rolls, I think I'll wait for my Pension to kick in before I get that, actually, make that all my family's pensions and a Bank Loan on top. Stick with the Capri's I think, more choice and more people looking and they will talk to you in a Capri...
Thanks again for sharing........
All the best,
John....

I agree with John's statement. There were some fantastic cars at the Tatton Park show, thanks for sharing the photos with us. Looks like you had a great day. Is there a photo of your Capri amongst the cars on show?
I don't know what the fuss is about regarding the price of the Rolls Royce, it's just loose change........I wish!
All the best,
Andrew.

Thanks for posting those photos Paul, I didn't get round as much of the show as I wanted so it fills in the blanks (though I did get into the super cars tent - the 2 old Pontiacs side by side were lovely).
The 17 year old lad that owns the white laser in my photos is planning to paint his lime green like the one in your photo above. Not sure myself but it will give it character alright!

Hi pbar,
Fantastic extra photos you have posted, thanks for sharing them. A very high standard of cars at the show, yours included. A very nice laser.
I know everyone will think I'm mad, but it's nice to see that the Maestro and Montego are now accepted as being suitable for exhibiting at events such as this show. Both very rare cars these days and both unfairly maligned yet capable cars in their day. A bit like the Capri perhaps?
I'm getting misty eyed and nostalgic over the photo of the Raleigh Choppers, or am I getting a tear in my eye remembering all my mishaps with that ill-conceived gear lever?
All the best,
Andrew.
