SWCCC Show Cardiff 17/5/15

Post by Andrew 2.8i »

Hi All,,

I went to an amazing classic car show at the weekend. There was a really high standard of cars there, and a great variety as well.
I ended up taking over 600 photos, and had difficulty narrowing it down to a reasonable amount to post on here. A lot of the cars were also at the recent show in Singleton Park, so there's no real point in reposting photos of the same cars.
These are some of my favourites, I hope you enjoy looking at them.

First up, the Capris.
A very tidy 2.0 Laser.
Image

A stunning 2.0S in black.
Image

Another S, this time a 3.0 with x-pack.
Image
Image

Other Fords of note. This XR2 was also at Singleton Park, but it was so immaculate I couldn't resist posting another photo of it.
Image

A Mk2 XR2.
Image

This Lotus Cortina won "Car of the Show", and very well deserved it was too.
Image
Image
Image

Another stunning Cortina.
Image

Mk1.
Image
Image

The estates are rare these days.
Image

Quite a few Mk1 Escorts, all fantastic.
Image

Image

Unusual to see a Mexico in green.
Image

And plenty of gorgeous Mk2s like this rally replica.
Image

Image

Image

Image

Sierra XR4i, awaiting restoration, but it's still a treat to see one.
Image

It's always good to see a well turned out Granada 2.8 Ghia.
Image

A good turn out of Cosworths, like this one.
Image

These seem to attract a lot of attention.
Image

Mustangs. This was owned by a smashing chap who was really proud of the car, with good reason, and was letting people sit in it!
Image

Image

A more modern one.
Image

'55 Thunderbird.
Image

Hey, it's Mater! Kind of...
Image

Something of interest at the show for everybody.
Image

Now onto the hot hatches.
Immaculate 205GTi 1.9
Image

Golf Mk1 GTi.
Image

And a Mk2. What's with the extra vents?
Image

Delta Integrale, in an unusual colour.
Image

Renault 5 Turbo 2, the mid-engine one. This is a rather nice rally replica.
Image
Image

Loads of American cars at the show, like this 'Vette.
Image

And a later one.
Image

Plymouth Road Runner.
Image

A few nice Trans-Ams.
Image

Camaros of all ages.
Image

Err........
Image

Other classics. I just can't resist a Silver Shadow, and nothing says the owner is rolling in it (excuse the pun) like a gold plated Spirit Of Ecstasy.
Image

An all-time classic.
Image

Nice to see an early MR2.
Image

Triumph Dolomite Sprint.
Image

Early Manta.
Image

Gorgeous early Mercedes SL.
Image

This car was a credit to the owner, absolutely superb.
Image

One of the most beautiful cars of all time? (Excluding our beloved Capri, naturally)
Image

Early 911.
Image

And an 80's one in classic red.
Image

Beautiful Alfa Spider.
Image

Early Esprit.
Image

And some great modern cars, like this race replica Viper
Image

A very rare car, Ascari FGT.
Image

This photo's for John! The perfect weather to head down to the beach after the show as well.
Image

I hope that you enjoyed browsing these photos. If there's any cars in the background you like the look of, just ask, and I'll see if I've got a photo of it.

All the best,
Andrew.

That's a really good assortment of pics you have shared there Andrew. Certainly was a good selection of cars. I'll take the white Laser and the red Porsche.

Great photos Andrew, I didn't see the white Laser in the first picture, must have been hiding.. Love that dark blue x-pack, he's done a superb job, the owner of the black 2.0s has owned it for only a few months, it was a thing of beauty. Yes the owner of the red mustang was a great bloke, couldn't refuse his offer of a chance to sit inside, it was subject to an $80,000 restoration prior to him buying it. Thanks for posting some great pictures, it was a good show.
Cheers,
Rob

Hi Rob,
Thanks for your comments. Yes, fantastic show! :) I caught the sun a bit though, so I'm a bit sore today.

I remember him saying something like that to me. I think he bought it at auction fairly recently, didn't he? I didn't ask how much he paid for it, but it's worth every penny. Pity more owners don't let people have a sit inside their cars!

All the best,
Andrew.

Hi Andrew,

Cheers for posting these pics, as already said, some great cars here, amazing choice.... If pushed I think to be honest the Dolly Sprint and the Opel Manta, love these MKI Mantas, something about even these early ones for me.... But you've caught something in the Sprint pic too for me, just looks totally mean, you can nearly see Lewis Collins behind the wheel ripping up the Handbrake.... Great!!! Keep um coming..... Still love the Beach Buggies too Andrew.... Cheers Again for posting, all the best,

John.....

Hi John,
I agree that there's just something about the Manta. It's very rare to see one these days as well.

All the best,

Hi Andrew,
Great Pics again! :applaud:
It amazes me the great condition of 90% of these cars....
Looks like the XROC had a stand there again too :)

I was at a local show Sunday with the XROC and a lot of similar cars were there too, Mk1 Manta, Mk1 Golf GTI, Scirocco GLS, Mustangs,
GT40, E Types, Austin Healeys, about 400 cars I believe but only 1 Capri.....Mine :D :D

Roll on Classic Ford

Hi Andy,
I bet you drew quite a crowd around your car at that show!

Yes the XROC were there, I was overtaken by a long convoy of Fords from that club on the way home! Also there were the South Wales Ford Fanatics, who won best stand of the show. All in all, lots of Fords!
There were also a lot of modern Fords there, which I'm not too bothered about looking at. After all, you've seen one Focus ST, you've seen them all! Still a good day out though.

All the best,
Andrew.

Hi Andrew,
Yes ALOT of people were interested which is always nice :D Spoke to a few people too including one chap that comes on here although not a member.
I like 'Ear Wigging' comments too....They look at the front then walk around the back and you hear "2.8 Injection I thought it was" or "Those Wheels are called Pepperpots"

People seem to connect with Fords more than any other Car, I think they can relate back to a time when they had one or someone they knew had one growing up etc etc....

Car of the Event was a Shelby Mustang and it won last year too....Think it was at Beaulieu so it gets around

There is often a guy with his young son (I assume) who walk past my car close to where I live, and he always tells his son that it's a Cortina!

Hi Andrew.

What superb photos mate. Nice one ! Really enjoyed looking through them. Some cracking cars..too many to "select" a favourite but Capris excluded I must say that Yellow RS2000 does look rather nice...bet the owner gets loads of attention...almost as much as us Capri guys

But as said so many beautiful cars...the non fords were not too bad either ;)

Hi Nick,
I'm glad that enjoyed the photos of the show. I have to say that the standard of the cars was high. Some real beauties there.
Fordoholic Nick wrote:You let me sit in your stunning 2.8i at Brooklands lst year
I did, I practice what I preach! I've let others sit in my car at shows as well, and put a smile on their face by letting them.
I've enjoyed sitting in John's car at The National and had a listen to his excellent Retro Sound stereo. I've sat in a Mustang 289 and a Lotus Esprit GT3 at shows, and they were both amazing experiences.
See what I'm saying here? Inviting people to sit in your car helps spread the joy of Capri ownership to those who aren't as fortunate as us. :)
Of course, I recommend being selective with your invitations!

All the best,
Andrew.

At shows I've seen people trying to get in, without the invite!

I've seen those sorts of people outside of shows as well!

They are the types of people who you don't want in your car, and because of that, they are not invited to sit inside.

It's easy to govern. Keep the doors and the boot locked at all times, even when you're around. I never admit to owning the car, unless asked directly. I just observe how people interract with the car. If they are all over the car like an excited schoolboy, yet are respectful of it, and don't touch it, I may ask them if they would like to have a sit in it.

Hi Andrew,
I agree I have let people sit inside although I haven't let anyone sit in this one yet.....that would mean putting the seat cover back on  but I sometimes open the door for them to look inside :D

Kids with Scooters  they are the worst but most Parents will be keeping an eye on them, It's all about respect

Hi Andy,
I think you make a valid point. Plenty of people look but don't touch, that's the way I try to be, and that's the way it should be at shows. However, as Paul says, there are others who take a "hands on" approach to the cars. Does your "look but don't touch" sign have the desired effect or is it ignored?
It would be nice if show organisers could refuse entry to scooters, pushchairs, bikes and anything else that could potentially cause damage to the cars. I suppose they have to maximise the revenue to recoup the cost of organising the event. Even still, if somebody accidentally causes damage to your car at a show what can you do? Not a lot.
It doesn't bother me enough that I don't leave the car for the duration of the show, but if the car had just been resprayed or was worth more money, I might think differently.......

All the best,
Andrew.

Hi Andrew,
Personally Pushchairs and Buggy's are fine as families have to get around but Bikes and Scooters....do they really need to be there :?:
A couple of years ago My 3.0 Ghia was parked at an angle amongst other cars and some Stupid Woman decided to try and get through a 12" gap with a hand bag  obviously rubbing my Car completely oblivious :banghead:. :turd: for Brains some people.

99% of People are good though :) Parents need to teach Children not to touch, Common sense at the end of the day isn't it ?

If we didn't turn up with cars there would be no Shows......

My Sign......? It stays on display so I like to think it helps :)

( I can't work out how to post one ) the Lotus looks amazing, there all a credit to their owners I don't know how they do it, were there any Astra GTEs there, you don't seem to see many, I saw one P6 in the back ground were there any nice V8s there I quite fancy one of those,

Regards

Dave.
